Trend Micro Internet Security is the company's midrange security package. It costs $39.95 for an annual license (See it on the Trend Micro website), which is about average, and the license can be used to protect up to three PCs, which is two more than the typical package. It includes pretty standard fare such as email scanning and ransomware protection, but also has some unique features such as a privacy check for social media and other privacy-based features that help set it apart in a very crowded field.

Chasm Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

What if you could play Castlevania over and over and never stop being surprised? That’s what Chasm tries to deliver: a full Metroidvania where every new game has its own unique, randomized map. Its RPG-elements and awesome variety of beautifully animated enemies make it fun the first time through, but it’s that push for replayability that ends doing more harm than good.

The layout of Chasm’s map is randomized, pieced together with pre-built rooms to build a custom map that no one but you will experience. You still progressively unlock new movement abilities in a specific order -- like a wall climb or a double jump -- that open new paths as you go, but you won’t be able to look up the locations you unlock them in a wiki.

WarioWare Gold Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

WarioWare Gold, the latest release in the offbeat Nintendo series that takes the expression ‘a quick game is a good game’ to its most literal extreme, is a greatest hits slab with substantial appeal for newcomers. It’s just a shame that its assortment of rehashed ‘microgames’ and disappointingly mixed bag of unlockables combine for an overall package that feels all too familiar for existing fans.

As with previous entries in the series, the core gameplay of WarioWare Gold is a breakneck succession of gameplay microgames that put your reaction times to the test. This relentless think-quick shtick finds mirth in otherwise mundane tasks and distills classic Nintendo games down to a few frames of fun, with 3-5 second microgames that are separated into three main types: mash, which is button-based; twist, which uses the 3DS’ built-in gyro-sensor; and touch, which requires tapping and swiping of the stylus. (There are also a few microphone-based games, but they all ultimately amount to just blowing air as hard as you can.)

Marvel Powers United VR Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Starting up Marvel Powers United VR for the first time is like stepping into a childhood dream. As I played through the prologue, throwing Cap’s shield and listening to Deadpool and Wolverine bicker, I was filled with glee at how good everyone looked up close and personal. Unfortunately, after the starting excitement wore off this superhero-powered co-op horde mode game quickly became repetitive due to the very similar feel of the heroes, bosses, and maps.

The training level has heroes interacting with each other and a hint of a story, but these aspects are not parts of the main game. Instead, a team of four heroes defends relays, finds power cells around the map, and fights bosses. My favorite part of a round is the first part, the relay defense, because it’s where you can just try out all of your superpowers on a whole bunch of small enemies like robots or Hydra soldiers, and that feels great. The animations are cool, creating combos is fun, and it’s immensely satisfying to sling webs as Spider-Man and smash into enemies as the Hulk. My personal favorite character to play is Iceman because he sets the whole team up for success and he is an underrated character in general. He can freeze tons of enemies, leaving them open to finishers from his teammates, and looking down to see your icy blue arms is just the right amount of jarring.

Attack on Titan Season 3, Episode 39: "Pain" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

If you’re not already caught up on Attack on Titan, catch up with our spoiler free reviews of the Season 2 recap film, and the first episode of Season 3. From this point forward, we’re strapping on our ODM gear and propelling straight into spoiler territory.

Following an intense premiere, Attack on Titan Season 3 is back with another rollercoaster of an episode. From chasing, to scheming, to questioning, to torture, this episode has all the juicy melodrama I could ever hope for. This is a fantastic episode, and I mean that in all senses of the word. It’s certainly not perfect, but the fluidity and the action is impeccable, and satisfying in a way that so much of the series hasn’t been so far. It’s nice to see the series hop right back into the drama and not waste time doing so, but also developing its cast more and more at the same time. Yes, these characters are being put through the wringer once again, but this time it’s against a much more tangible threat.

Last year, IGN took a look at the HyperX's first gaming mouse, the Pulsefire FPS. It was an impressive fledgling effort, and the company followed it up with an even more advanced model dubbed the Surge RGB. For its third go-around, HyperX is splitting the difference between these two mice with a midrange model dubbed the Pulsefire FPS Pro (See it on Amazon). It essentially is the Pulsefire mouse, with a few features borrowed from the upscale Surge. Perhaps the most surprising change, at least compared to the Surge, is HyperX has removed some of its lighting, which is definitely going against the current trend. As its name implies, it's an upgrade from the entry-level Pulsefire FPS, and at $60 it slots directly into the middle of the company's mouse lineup.

Netflix's Extinction Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Netflix’s Extinction is a science fiction “thriller” in description alone. An uneven pace and the dry performance from the lead actor subdues any sense of excitement. The film’s familiar premise – a man is tormented by a recurring nightmare that may or may not be a vision of the future – doesn’t do it any favors either. That said, taking it in as a whole, Extinction isn’t all that bad.

Directed by Ben Young, Extinction is centered on an engineer named Peter (Michael Peña) and his troubling dreams. Often depicting a war of sorts, with people being gunned down in the streets by an unseen force, his nights are never peaceful. Over time, Peter’s lack of sleep starts to affect his life; he suffers from black outs, alienates his friends and seemingly neglects his family. Eventually, at the urging of his wife Alice (Lizzy Caplan), Peter makes an appointment with a nearby clinic. The idea was to go speak to a professional (a physiatrist maybe) in hopes of ridding himself of the nightmares. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned.

Sharp Objects Finally Gets Freaky in Episode 4

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This review contains spoilers for Sharp Objects episode 4, titled "Ripe."

There’s a really nice balance struck between everything Sharp Objects has been doing well since it premiered in “Ripe.” Rich family drama is used to develop not just one, but all three of the women in the family. Progress in the case directly ties to the personal stakes of Camille’s return to Wind Gap. And there’s this searing tension throughout, as if something terrible is about to happen. While it’s frustrating that said tension doesn’t pay off here, this episode leaves us on a wicked and cruel cliffhanger that makes you realize just how well Sharp Objects is working.

“Ripe” opens with images of all the dead that have been affecting Camille’s psyche since she returned to Wind Gap. Her sister, her cellmate, and the murdered girls are shown in montage together to create an uneasy feeling that carries through the entire episode. Whether it’s Amma suddenly treating her half-sister with an ounce of respect (maybe even empathy), or the way Camille’s return to several old crime scenes with Richard trigger some very unhappy memories, there are so few moments in this episode that feel trustworthy for Camille.

Kings Review: Berry-Craig LA Riots Drama Fails

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Kings is now available to own on Digital and comes to home video July 31.

Set in South Central LA circa 1992, Kings story centers on a foster parent named Millie (Halle Berry) and her desire to mother eight children. This is a daunting task given her current economic status – assuming she gets some form of government assistance, her only other means of income involves selling baked goods from the back of her car. Making sure the bills are paid is the least of Millie’s worries though. There’s also the threat of someone calling CPS whenever she leaves the kids alone/with her oldest son Jesse (Lamar Johnson) or when their rambunctious behavior spills out into the alley by their house. The struggle is real.

No Man's Sky NEXT Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

With its latest update, called Next, No Man’s Sky has rounded off enough of its rough edges and piled in enough content that exploring its weird galaxy is usually rewarding. It’s definitely a treadmill, though, and while there are countless upgrades and ships to acquire, bases to build, and resources to mine, the process of earning them involves hours upon hours of mindless and repetitive work.

Hopping in a spaceship, flying out of the atmosphere into space, then landing on another planet that looks completely different from the one you just left is as amazing as ever – a feat that still hasn’t been matched. Some worlds are scenic and beautiful, begging you to use the camera mode to capture the views of rolling hills with colorful plants and animals dotting the landscape and a ringed planet hanging over the horizon and peeking out between clouds; others are barren and ugly wastelands; and others are just bizarre. There really is an impressive range of sights.

The Banner Saga 3 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Stoic Games’ denouement to their beautifully animated, Viking-inspired epic contains, in heaping doses, more of everything that made the first two turn-based tactics games so strong. The Banner Saga 3 offers a bloody and satisfying conclusion to the trilogy with plenty of tough choices, challenging encounters, and vivid characters. At the same time, it also fails to address the series’ few weaknesses: Rote combat, an avalanche of side characters with little importance to the plot, and a short adventure. Still, it spins a good yarn and delivers immediate consequences to your decisions in such a way that I was left wanting more.

It is the little details that lend weight to the stakes facing this beautiful, hand-drawn world. The devastation beyond the darkness as Iver’s band travels further into the belly of the proverbial beast is unnerving, almost haunting. The fates of his band of Ravens felt as immediate as the grander mission, with simple tactical decisions as we plodded along carrying immediate life-or-death outcomes. I chose poorly more than once, but each time I did so it felt fair. Whether they were a result of ignoring the advice of a seasoned companion or just misreading a situation, in hindsight it was clear that the failures I suffered were mine alone.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The excellent Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 is a tough act to follow, but Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 doesn’t even come close. It contains X5 through X8, which range in quality from good all the way down to awful. At least Capcom put a lot of love into the port even if the games themselves don’t necessarily deserve much.

Just like the first collection, there are a lot of fun little extras in this package. The Museum collects all the music, artwork, products, and trailers from the series and there are plenty of screen options to tune the look and feel to your liking. Those include stretching the game to take up the entire 16:9 screen or keeping it 4:3 and retaining aspect ratio while taking up as much space as possible. You can also choose to have borders on or off, smooth out the graphics in filter settings, or turn off all of that so the games are presented with their original look.

Justice League Dark Makes a Welcome Return

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It's a little surprising that DC didn't revive Justice League Dark during the DC Rebirth relaunch. Without that series or a dedicated Swamp Thing book, it's mainly fallen on John Constantine to keep the magical torch burning in the DCU. But no longer. Action Comics Returns in Top Form

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

For a writer who only just took the reins of the Superman franchise a couple months ago, Brian Bendis sure has penned a lot of introductory stories. There was his Man of Steel prelude in Action Comics #1000, the actual first issue of Man of Steel and then last week's Superman #1. And now Bendis is writing yet another first chapter as he begins his run on Action Comics. The benefit to writing so many first issues is that Bendis gets plenty of chances to perfect the formula. Action Comics #1001 easily ranks as his strongest Superman comic yet, and proves once again that the franchise is in capable hands.

Kurosaki Ichigo – just your average orange-haired, brown-eyed high-schooler who can see spirits.

Yes, our beloved Bleach is back on the big screen, this time as a live-action movie. So many live-action adaptations of classic manga have missed the mark, but there are some exceptions, such as the recent Liverleaf (Misu Misou), which provide glimpses of light in an otherwise dark tunnel.

And now there’s Bleach. Directed by Shinsuke Sato, who has also adapted hit manga such as Gantz and I Am a Hero, and with popular and action-ready young star Sota Fukushi playing Ichigo, it would seem to have all the ingredients for success.

Halo: Fireteam Raven Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The Halo: Fireteam Raven arcade cabinet is nothing if not imposing. The massive construction includes twin 65-inch 1080p TVs linked together – a 21st-century version of the classic X-Men arcade cabinet – forming a giant, ultra-widescreen play area. Four padded seats fill the pod, which is enclosed by glowing Halo rings; each chair is equipped with a heavyweight mounted gun turret controller that’s lavishly decked out with LED strips that change color when you pull the trigger. It certainly looks the part. And, thankfully, the light-gun game within largely lives up to the presentation.

Halo: Fireteam Raven – currently exclusive to Dave and Buster’s – is a fun, four-player romp across the original Halo ring from Combat Evolved that mixed in enough weapon variety to leave me smiling at the end of a run through the 45-minute campaign. I played through all six missions in four-player mode, and then played through the first half of it again with just two of us. Like any co-op game it’s clearly a better experience with every seat filled – but the AI that substitutes for missing players keeps your flanks just safe enough to not feel like a burden. It doesn’t demand any real coordination between players beyond keeping whatever area of the screen you decide is your territory clear of threats, so no inside knowledge of Halo is needed in order to be successful.

Better Call Saul Season 4 Premiere Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Better Call Saul's Season 4 premiere doesn't air on AMC until August 6th, but those in attendance at SDCC got a sneak preview of it on Thursday, July 19th. The following is a non-spoiler review.

Obviously though, there are spoilers for the events in the Season 3 finale, "Lantern."

It should come as no surprise that Better Call Saul's Season 4 opener, "Smoke," is sublimely subdued. The Breaking Bad-verse, long ago, excelled at the craft at filling time and space with artfully detailed moments of contemplative quiet. "Smoke" picks things up right where Season 3 left off and drops a heavy load on Jimmy McGill's lap, right at a moment in his life when he's both optimistic about new career ventures and content in being Kim's shoulder to lean on during her recovery.

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan Season 1 Premiere Has Action and Heart

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This is an advanced spoiler-free review of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series premiere. The episode was shown at Comic-Con 2018 in Ballroom 20. Season 1 will be available on Amazon Prime Video on August 31.

At first glance, Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan, Amazon Prime Video's newest series starring John Krasinski (The Office) as the titular hero, is just another entry in a long line of military-centered stories featuring a seemingly unimportant man thrust into extreme circumstances, which usually end with said hero saving the day.

There are moments when Jack Ryan is every bit the cliche when it comes to this genre, especially when we've already seen four other iterations of Ryan in various films, from Patriot Games (Harrison Ford) to The Sum of all Fears (Ben Affleck). While each of these cinematic entries warrants some merit, none of them have truly found a way to stand out in the Tom Clancy live-action universe... Until now.

Sharp Objects Episode 3 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

What is the central mystery of HBO’s Sharp Objects adaptation? Is it the identity of the killer plaguing Wind Gap, or is it the slow reveal of all the terrible things that led Camille, Adora, and even Amma to be in the troubled states they’re in right now? With an episode like “Fix,” the most obvious answer is that these two mysteries will inform and dovetail into each other’s respective resolutions.

Does that mean Adora or Amma, or hell, even Camille, might’ve committed the murders? Not necessarily, but then why spend so much time advancing their individual character development without really showing progress on the murder case? “I guess you can’t trust Adora’s girls, can you?” Camille cheekily quips at one point. All that’s absent is a knowing wink.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 Review

The Mega Man X Legacy Collection is an absolutely fantastic compilation that contains the first four Mega Man X games. Mega Man X4 was a bit more divisive when initially released, but I found myself enjoying it despite the surprising evolution in the art style. I’m incredibly happy to have this well executed compilation in my library of modern consoles and available on the go.

The Death of Superman Review

The Death of Superman screened at San Diego Comic-Con. It arrives on Digital July 24, 2018, and on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD August 7th. Some SPOILERS follow.

The Death of Superman marks the third time in 11 years that a movie has killed off the Man of Steel, which makes this latest DC animated offering a tedious case of been there-done that. While this new version hews more closely to its bestselling 1992-1993 namesake comics event than either 2007’s Superman: Doomsday or 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice did, it nevertheless lacks anything truly fresh or revelatory to add to this now well-worn tale. All the same beats are hit once again, Doomsday remains a lame villain, and all the sequel set-up undercuts the emotional impact of Superman’s tragic fate since the film almost immediately tells you all will be fine.

Teen Titans Go! To The Movies Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

If you need an antidote to the muddled mess of Justice League, look no further than Teen Titans GO! to the Movies, a gleefully unhinged deconstruction of superhero tropes that isn’t afraid to take aim at the rest of DC’s cinematic roster (with a little good-natured Marvel ribbing thrown in just for kicks).

Essentially functioning as DC’s kid-friendly answer to Deadpool, Teen Titans GO! to the Movies trades the latter’s profanity and gore for fart jokes and musical numbers (Michael Bolton lends his voice to a fever-dream of a song that will be stuck in your head for weeks), but both films are equally skilled at affectionately mocking the genre that spawned them, while never losing sight of what made us fall in love with these iconic heroes in the first place.

He-Man and Injustice Are a Winning Team

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This new miniseries isn't the first time the heroes of the DC Universe and Eternia have crossed paths. But it does bring something new to the table, as this is the first time He-Man and the gang are encountering the battle-weary heroes of the Injustice universe. That remixed pairing carries plenty of potential, though this first issue only begins to tap into into it.

STL086363

Inter-franchise crossovers seems to be DC's method of keeping the Masters of the Universe saga alive and commercially viable, so this book is also a direct follow-up to the events of 2016's He-Man/Thundercats. He-Man has just finished reclaiming his stolen throne from Faker, and finds himself bothered by the notion that many Eternians were happier living under the rule of a forceful tyrant. You can pretty much figure out where writer Tim Seeley and artist Freddie E. Williams II are going from there. Suffice it to say, Seeley's script begins forging a clever thematic bond between these two franchises. Is this the first time that He-Man has been politically relevant?

It's satisfying knowing that writer Tom King is just beginning the second half of his already massive Batman run. There's certainly plenty of ground to cover in the aftermath of Batman #50. The result is a low-key but appropriately moody story that sets the tone for the next phase of the series.

If you want to protect your files from not only disk failure but local disasters like theft and fire, you need to have a backup "in the cloud." MozyHome aims to make this process as easy as possible for even the most tech-phobic users, but it's incredibly expensive considering how much storage capacity it offers. Its package for home users is a relatively robust offering that includes cloud storage, file syncing, email restore options, and a mobile app.

Cloud backup options vary wildly in price and functionality, and are increasingly necessary for peace of mind and data security. I thoroughly evaluated Mozy along with several other leading packages based on three main criteria: pricing, features, and performance.

Captain Marvel Gets a Flawed Fresh Start

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

For all that Marvel has worked to position Carol Danvers as the female face of the Marvel Universe in recent years, her actual solo comic hasn't always measured up. The latest incarnation of the series seeks to find balance between superheroics and character drama by going back to the very beginning of Carol's story. It's not a home run by any means, but The Life of Captain Marvel #1 isn't a bad jumping-on point for the character.

While the new series seemed like it would deliver a straightforward retelling of Carol's origin story when first announced, in truth only a small portion of the book focuses on flashback material. Writer Margaret Stohl is clearly more interested in looking forward than behind. The goal is to explore how Carol's childhood trauma shapes her present-day life.

The Equalizer 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Antoine Fuqua's The Equalizer (released in 2014 and based on a mid-1980s TV series), remains, perhaps, the best Punisher feature film we'll ever see. Robert McCall, as played by Denzel Washington, is a righteous vigilante with an implacable sense of righteousness, and no small amount talent when it comes to violent killing. McCall quietly works blue collar jobs, eats in modest local diners, and who is slowly working his way through the 100 best books in the Western Canon at the behest of a fallen wife. He even has a gimmick. When McCall charges into a room to do damage to a large number of Russian pimps and scumbags, he times himself via stopwatch as if he's trying to beat his own record. Robert McCall is essentially a comic book superhero. It's easy to see, then, why Washington and Fuqua would want to make The Equalizer 2, the first time either of them has made a sequel or reprised a character. Robert McCall must be a fun character to play and offers both the director and the actor a chance to present a heroic vigilante with both thrilling violence as well as actual moral indignation.

Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The land of Ooo has flooded and out there be pirates. It’s up to Finn and Jake to find out how things got so whack and bust up a few dinguses while they’re at it. Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion attempts to mix the world and humor of the Cartoon Network series with a competent but simple turn-based RPG, but never manages to be all that great at either. The charm of the TV show is never fully realised and the action is a bit too basic to offer any real depth. Younger fans will probably find this an accessible adventure with characters they love but for older, more experienced players it’s missing both challenge and interesting exploration.

Finn and Jake start out on the never-before-seen Ocean of Ooo after their home mysteriously floods overnight. The map gives the illusion of vastness, presenting itself as open with islands dotted here and there, almost akin to The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. In practice, it feels more like an overworld map, or a hub for smaller levels. Instead of letting you freely explore the islands, each one has a set path with linear puzzles to complete. Worse, it takes so long to get from one island to another across the almost barren waters that it becomes less of an open world and more of an empty-feeling one.

Far Cry 5: Lost on Mars DLC Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Bazooka-toting good old boy Hurk is the funniest character in Far Cry 5, and the Lost On Mars expansion is basically a 10-hour comedy showcase for his hillbilly humor set to some forgettable alien blasting. While Far Cry is usually known for open worlds with a lot of gameplay systems that mix and swirl together to create spontaneous insanity, the barren wasteland of Mars doesn’t provide opportunity for much of anything interesting to happen. But hey, there are some pretty good Star Wars prequel jokes.

While Far Cry 5 tells a story that – at its heart – is pretty serious, we’re in straight up goofball territory here. A cheap-looking opening cutscene establishes how you, playing as the pilot Nick Rye, and Hurk arrived on Mars to prevent an alien invasion, and how Hurk became the second talking severed head sidekick in a game this year. After that, you’re sent about the straightforward work of shooting Starship Troopers-style alien bugs and collecting body parts.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is a movie that you’re either going to avoid like the plague or be looking forward to seeing. As with the first Mamma Mia! a decade ago, there’s a target audience for this movie who would lap it up regardless of quality but the people behind this haven’t rested on their laurels. What they’ve done is make a concerted effort to deliver something that’s worth their time and money and they’ve succeeded. They could have just pushed out a straight-up cash grab but they haven’t.

I can’t deny I enjoyed the first movie. Sure, it was cheesy and clichéd and played like a jukebox musical dance party sprinkled with romance and heartache but it also had an irresistible charm. Rather than being ashamed of what it was, it embraced it and reveled in it. No, this is not classic cinema but that’s absolutely okay.

Orange is the New Black Resets with a Mostly Successful Season 6

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This is a spoiler-free review for all 13 episodes of Orange is the New Black: Season 6, which premieres July 27 on Netflix.

After the curiously chaotic slog that was Season 5, which depicted a prison riot playing out in televisual "real time," Netflix's Orange is the New Black returns to its tonal and structural basics with a sixth season focusing on the riot fallout and most everyone's transfer over to Litchfield's maximum-security prison.

With this shift in location, both the rioters and guards find themselves in a more rigid and dangerous sandbox, where the show's core ensemble becomes trapped in a decades-long turf war between two cruel and cantankerous sisters, Carol and Barbara (Henny Russell and Mackenzie Phillips). The locale change-up works well and stands as one of the most captivating elements of Season 6, presenting us with a shiny new nightmarish setting that allows for more evenly paced proceedings, as the stricter rules, forced separation, and "Prisoner's Dilemma" aspects create a desperate and dire canvas where hardly anyone is able to fully, or easily, communicate with one another.

Netflix's Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle will launch on Netflix on July 18, 2018. It was previously released theatrically in Japan.

The second part in a trilogy of animated movies, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle is the continuation of Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, in which protagonist Haruo Sakaki and his cohorts returned to an Earth they had once lost to the titular beast. That movie ends in desperation, as, having thought they had defeated Godzilla, they discovered their opponent was only a smaller version of the king of the monsters, and the big guy was still alive and well.

Unfriended: Dark Web Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Considering how much time we each spend on the internet - don’t deny it, you’re reading a review on the internet right now - it only makes sense that the internet would inform the way we make movies. A film like the original Unfriended, which was all about the way that cruel people interact online, and make each other’s lives a living hell, was a novel albeit lowbrow attempt to transform everyday technology into something entertainingly scary.

The sequel, Unfriended: Dark Web, takes the visual gimmick from the original film and removes all the relevancy. Instead of a story about how we interact online, it’s a story about cardboard twenty-somethings stumbling onto a murder cult in a convoluted story that relies on more on coincidences than logic.

Who is America Review: Sacha Baron Cohen's Comedy is No Laughing Matter

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

If you're expecting an actual answer to the titular question posed by Sacha Baron Cohen's latest shock/mock-umentary, Who is America will offer little insight into the country it's supposedly exploring, instead grabbing for the lowest hanging fruit in the political satire tree. Over the course of its first episode, the confrontational Showtime series inadvertently raises a much more perplexing query: Who is this actually for?

Much like Da Ali G Show and its subsequent movie spinoffs, Who is America sees Baron Cohen disguise himself (with prosthetics that seem so obvious on screen, it's baffling to imagine that people were actually duped in person) as caricatures meant to evoke some of the most extreme viewpoints on the political spectrum: conspiracy theorist Billy Wayne Ruddick, Jr (of truthbrary.org); apologetic "cisgender white heterosexual male" Dr. Nira Cain-N'Degeocello; Israeli "anti-terror expert" Colonel Erran Morad; and the show's most underdeveloped character, British ex-con Ricky Sherman, whose defining characteristic seems to be "attempting to be Tom Hardy-esque, if Tom Hardy was actually as unattractive as he tries to make himself look in most of his movie roles." What Baron Cohen hopes to achieve with that, beyond making us wish that Tom Hardy would try his hand at sketch comedy, is anyone's guess.

HBO's Sharp Objects Only Gets Creepier in Episode 2

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This review contains spoilers for Sharp Objects episode 2, titled "Dirt." To refresh your memory of where we left off, check out our review of episode 1.

It’s likely telling that “Dirt” is one of just three episodes author Gillian Flynn wrote for the adaptation of her debut novel (the other two will be the final episodes of the series). The second entry takes all of the premiere’s various introductions and builds on them in ways both thrilling and quiet, allowing the author to not only cement the tone she wants to strike with this tale, but fully form several characters’ voices. After this episode, the larger mystery feels clearer, while the characters are busy emotionally challenging each other, as well as themselves. Here, Sharp Objects allows itself to enter an early groove that the rest of the series can hopefully work from.

The Culling 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It took three matches filled with endless running, picking up guns I wouldn’t end up shooting, and a whole lot of silence before I saw another living soul in The Culling 2. When I finally locked the scope of my SCAR rifle on another orange prison jumpsuit-clad contestant, I got my first kill. That is, after both of us flailed around unloading and reloading multiple clips at each other. My experience with The Culling 2, the latest battle royale game with an increasingly familiar loop, cycled back and forth between boredom and frustration, with an emphasis on the former. This shoddy H1Z1/PUBG clone brings nothing of value to the popular genre, and so many people have already caught onto that fact that you probably couldn't play it if you tried.

Danger Zone 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The highway to the Danger Zone is, in fact, an actual highway this time.

Danger Zone 2 is, in everything but name, a direct successor to the beloved Crash mode in Burnout Revenge, in the very best of ways. This colorful game of automotive destruction is what I’d hoped for when last year’s disappointing Danger Zone set its action in a joyless grey box of a warehouse. It laudibly brings your cars – yes, plural this time – back above ground and out onto realistic closed-circuit tracks where they can really perform. And by “perform” I mean “intentionally and horrifyingly wreck, twisting your car into a flaming mass of twisted metal and causing 80-car pile-ups with your Smashbreaker explosions.”

The world of ultra-wide gaming monitors keeps expanding, and with continued advancements in GPU technology, someday we’ll reach the dream of massive 21:9 displays with 4K resolutions and high refresh rates. Until that day arrives, the Acer XR382CQK (See it on Amazon) finds a middle ground between 1440p and 4K with a 3840 x 1600 resolution on a massive 37.5” screen. The feature set and dimensions are unique, with the exception of the similarly-priced LG 38UC99-W, but is the extra screen real estate and impressive resolution worth the hefty $1,200 price tag? Earthfall Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Frankly, I was never able to successfully shake the phrase “Left 4 Dead, but worse” from my mind during my time with Earthfall. Admittedly, Valve is one of the toughest acts to follow in all of gaming, but every aspect of this co-op shooter falls short of its inspiration and none of its depressingly few new ideas stood out as innovative or meaningful. But perhaps Earthfall’s greatest shortcoming is the lack of replay value for its limited batch of levels.

Earthfall sends a team of four players through 10 mostly linear missions set in the aftermath of a cataclysmic alien invasion. You’ll combat an unending onslaught of shambling alien drones and endure frequent attacks from the teamwork inducing “special” enemies, most of whom are extremely derivative. Sappers explode, Threshers pounce, and Whiplashes whisk away teammates. Annoyingly, this trio spawns together at predictably regular intervals. The two disablers let loose an initial battlecry, but good luck keeping track of them after that, as they emit hardly any sound. As a result, getting pounced or grabbed feels unavoidable and obligatory.
