NBA 2K16 enters eSports world with $250,000 Road to the Finals competition

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

2K has announced NBA 2K16 will be entering the world of competitive gaming with its NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals competition.

The NBA 2K16 Road to the Finals competition merges simulation basketball with eSports, which will culminate over the course over the NBA Finals in June. Both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can form their own NBA 2K Pro-Am teams to then compete in a series of in-game events in order to qualify for the tournament to win $250,000.

The Road to the Finals begins on February 15 in North America and will continue through May 8. A total of 16 qualifying events will take place, with participants required to win at least four games in order to qualify. The four games won will be scored based on the team’s performance and then ranked on an even leaderboard with the top score of each qualifying event day deemed the winner. Winners will then move on to the tournament.

On May 21, the 16 winners will go head-to-head in a single elimination tournament. The console winners will then face off for the $250,000 championship in June during the actual NBA Finals.

“The NBA 2K development team has aspired to join the exciting world of eSports for years,” said Greg Thomas, president of Visual Concepts. “Road to the Finals is our first step, and we can’t wait to add even more excitement and competitive action to our franchise.”

Superhot release date announced for PC and Xbox One

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Superhot will be released on February 25 with an Xbox One release planned to release some time in March, the development team behind the title have announced.

Superhot’s origins started out as a 7 Day First Person Shooter (7DFPS) game jam project that was created in August 2013. Once its prototype was released on the Internet, it quickly became popular, even going through the Steam Greenlight process in just a single weekend. On May 14th, the game launched on Kickstarter and became fully funded in just its first 23 hour, which ended with over $250,000 from the Superhot community.

Superhot is a pretty unique first-person shooter as time only moves when you move. It features unique and stylized graphics that allows players to see a bullet’s trajectory, which we hope isn’t headed in your direction.
