Twin Peaks: "Part 5" Review

When it comes to plot progression, it’s best to expect baby steps from the new Twin Peaks, which was (mostly) the case with “Part 5.” Cooper is still very out of it – underlined by the closing credited, as he sadly just stood at the foot of that statue.

But there are intriguing little hints that things are changing. He’s remembered his love of coffee (hurray!), the word “agent” caught his attention, and the one and only time he seemed to be in the moment was when he called one of Dougie’s coworkers (Tom Sizemore) a liar. Was this his FBI deduction skills coming through or something more? We did see a strange green glow on Sizemore’s face right before it happened, so either is possible.

Fear the Walking Dead: Season 3 Premiere Review

Warning: Full spoilers for Fear the Walking Dead's two-episode Season 3 premiere below.

Fear the Walking Dead returned with a double dose of intensity as Season 3 hit us with a huge loss right out of the gate, in the form of Travis' death, while galvanizing the Clark family into a grieving force that, if called for, was ready to take over their new "home base" by force.

Threats from both walkers and humans were balanced nicely in "Eye of the Beholder" and "The New Frontier" as doomsday-preppers, the Otto family, were introduced as a new story element -- saviors to the untrained eye, save for problem child Troy (Daniel Sharman) and his calmly unhinged tendencies to murder strangers for fun. Sorry, did I say for fun? I meant for "science."

American Gods: "A Murder of Gods" Review

Full spoilers for American Gods continue below.

True to its title, American Gods used "A Murder of Gods" to showcase that gods can indeed perish. While we saw gods can die after being forgotten, as with Nunyunnini's story, this week we saw both Mexican Jesus and Vulcan bite the dust. It's unclear how exactly faith and a god's existence mix here; shouldn't a god still live on, regardless of whether his or her form is killed, because they have followers? Hopefully that will be clarified in future weeks, but for now it's clear that the stakes are pretty high for Wednesday.

Within the world of the show, American Gods is exploring something really interesting in the idea of the gods needing to create new franchises of themselves to appeal to new believers. It's what Media and Mr. World were pitching Wednesday in last week's episode -- an update, a refresh -- and it became immediately apparent that Vulcan was on the New Gods' side when he started parroting the same language. That's a heady concept and ties back to a personal conflict most people have likely found themselves in: do you stay true to your old idea of who you are, or change that about yourself to try to keep up to date with the times and changing expectations?
