Batman #28 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This issue kicks off the second act of the massive "War of Jokes and Riddles" storyline, as Joker and Riddler's feud is casting an ever darker shadow over Gotham. Needless to say, life in Gotham City hasn't gotten any easier for the millions suffering under a nonstop barrage of Joker and Riddler-fueled carnage. This arc continues to paint a captivating portrait of a city under siege and a hero utterly powerless to do more than simply count the dead.

In many ways, "The War of Jokes and Riddles" really is the antidote to the "Bat-god" portrayal of Batman that's so prevalent these days. From the beginning, this series has served as an exploration of Batman's limitations and mortality. There's a very bleak quality to the script here, as Batman continues to relate his experiences during those fateful "Year Two" days and the futility in trying to bring a halt to a war that has by now claimed hundreds of lives. This issue offers a much better sense of why this previously untold chapter of Batman's history so weighs on Bruce even now. Again, the purpose of this story is less to showcase the war itself than the psychological toll its taking on men like Batman and Gordon.

VR Review: Lone Echo

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

When I played Adr1ft in VR, I enjoyed the sensation of moving through space, but something was missing: hand-tracked controls. Navigating with a gamepad and watching a hand that wasn’t mine reach out and grab things created a disconnect I couldn’t get past. Lone Echo and its multiplayer companion Echo Arena, on the other hand, make outstanding use of the zero-gravity setting and the Oculus Touch controllers in a way that creates a convincing experience of weightlessness and presence. With some of the best VR movement I’ve experienced, sharp graphics, a lengthy story, this is one of the most impressive and complete-feeling VR games out there.

SteelSeries is launching two new mice today, and thanks to the deployment of an all-new custom sensor it's boasting they feature “the world’s first TRUE 1:1 tracking at 3500DPI." It's a bold claim, and it means that wherever your hand goes, so does the cursor, under any conditions. There's no jitter, no lag, and no extraneous movements that can happen even with pro-quality mice.

Tacoma Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Witnessing six absent strangers’ private moments aboard an empty space station left me feeling a little gross. Oddly enough, that’s a good thing. My mild discomfort at invading their intimate privacy is a testament to how well Tacoma’s characters are written and acted. I dug through their belongings, watched arguments and embraces, and discovered what happened when a dwindling oxygen supply forced the group to make rash decisions. Though I wish I’d had more time to get to know the crew better, Tacoma builds an intriguing and disturbing future world that’s surprisingly well-developed even within its short playtime of three to four hours.

Playing as a contracted AI communications specialist, I boarded the Lunar Transfer Station Tacoma after the emergency had been resolved. I wandered around its three well-designed sections and watched ghost-like augmented-reality (AR) recordings that reveal what happened there while my Nintendo 3DS-like device downloaded the station’s AI data. It was refreshing to be on an abandoned station without fretting over whether or not something was going to attack me. Instead, I got to take my time as I examined the station’s futuristic objects (like cup ramen and beer), played basketball in zero gravity, and of course watched the recordings.
