Netflix's I Lost My Body Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

I Lost My Body is currently streaming on Netflix.

One of Netflix's more curious acquisitions this past year is a gorgeous and hypnotically haunting animated feature that made an award-winning splash at the Cannes Film Festival: Jérémy Clapin's I Lost My Body.

Clapin is adapting a book here -- Happy Hand, by Guillaume Laurant (who's worked as a writer on such films as Amélie and The City of Lost Children) -- though this apparently isn't Clapin's first piece of animation to merge emotional unrest with traumatic physical displacement.

The story is like a tragic moving poem, and while it doesn't directly tether themes together in an obvious manner, there's definitely an idea at play regarding loss and longing mirroring the actual splitting of one's corporeal self.

Vikings: Season 6 Premiere Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This is a review of the Vikings Season 6 premiere, which featured back-to-back episodes, "New Beginnings" and "The Prophet." The first 10 episodes of Season 6 start now, with the remaining 10 landing sometime later in 2020.

As the final season of Vikings kicks off, it's hard not to look back at the full scope of this series. The fast-travel and time jumps employed by this ambitious saga felt jarring and clunky during its first few seasons, but once they became more firmly established as the show's blueprint for larger, grander storytelling, and once the show definitively settled into continuing on long after the death of centerpiece Ragnar Lothbrok, it became an exemplary example of epic ensemble work.

Batman #84 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Batman #84 is the comic readers should have gotten months ago. While this issue serves as the penultimate chapter of writer Tom King's epic Batman saga, it devotes the vast majority of its energy to filling in the gaps of previous stories and answering the many lingering questions surrounding Flashpoint's Thomas Wayne. While those answers help illuminate an often perplexing character, this issue ultimately reads like a case of "too little, too late."

Only fairly recently has it become clear that Thomas Wayne is the true antagonist of King's run. Bane may have been manipulating Bruce Wayne from the very beginning, but ultimately, even he was just a pawn of Batman's father. The goal with issue #84 is nothing more or less than shedding more light on Thomas' motivations and actions. We get a better sense of why he's so hellbent on convincing Bruce to give up the Batman mantle, and finally learn how he survived his apparent death in The Flash #22 almost three years ago.

Uncut Gems Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Uncut Gems opens in limited theatrical release Dec. 13 and in wider release on Dec. 25.

You never know when Adam Sandler is going to emerge from lowbrow comedies set in tropical locales to really, really make something. But when he does, he sure collaborates with some fascinating artists. From Paul Thomas Anderson to Noah Baumbach to, now, Josh and Benny Safdie, directing brothers who have slowly but surely emerged into the larger cinematic conversation by making small but very effective, stylish films about what many would consider “real New Yorkers,” when Sandler gets serious, he also gets experimental. Just as the Safdies’ last film, Good Time, gave rise to career-best work from Robert Pattinson, Uncut Gems shows us an Adam Sandler we’ve never seen before.
