Ash vs Evil Dead: "Bound in Flesh" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

Now that was a damn, fine episode of "Ash vs. Evil Dead." The best since the premiere. Better than the premiere, in some ways. Sure, a few weeks ago "The Killer of Killers" also brought back the wit and perverse charm of the pilot for a uniquely gruesome bottle episode set in a diner, but "Bound in Flesh," to date, felt the most Raimi-ish of the non-Raimi episodes. Writer and co-executive producer Rob Wright did a fine job of giving us the most familiar Ash since the guy who got stoned and unleashed hell on Earth.

Because, let's face it. The season's been uneven. This Starz series marks the first time we've seen Ash written and directed by people other than the original creator. And so he's felt different on certain episodes. "Off," even. Yes, it's expected that Ash would mature a bit as the show progressed, as he'd learn to love and respect his new cohorts, but occasionally - like with "The Host" and "Ashes to Ashes" - he's felt almost too mature. Too changed in his ways. So the Ash here in the uber-bloody penultimate Season 1 episode was a return to form. Even if he doesn't exactly line up with some of the more earnest Ashes from episodes past.

Final Fantasy 6 fan-made graphics patch now available on PC

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Earlier this year, Square Enix released Final Fantassy VI on PC, but with a modernized graphic style that has left some old-school FF players seeing red. After all, part of the charm of the original game was the sprite character models. Now it appears that one intrepid modder has gone to the trouble of putting a fix together.

Late Thursday night, a new patch was posted on Steam, removing the bilinear filters from the character models, making Final Fantasy VI look more like the classic Final Fantasy VI.

Final Fantasy VI isn't getting a huge discount for the Steam Winter Sale, but it is getting a modest discount, for anyone looking to put this patch to work.

Steam bug causing user account information to appear to other customers [Update: Valve responds]

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

It's Christmas Day and while people were watching Xbox Live and PlayStation Network for any possible issues, it appears that the biggest problem today is with Steam. It's coming in the form of a bug and quite a nasty one.

It's been reported on Reddit, as well as from our own Chatty community, that attempting to log into Steam and access account information will cause the account information for a different user to pop up. This is allowing people to see other customers' account information, buying history, Wallets, and even credit card numbers (albeit blocked out).

An official cause has not been issued, but speculation (including from the diligent Valve followers at Steam Database) is pointing to a caching issue gone horribly wrong.

Logins have been disabled for the time being, but the damage is already being done. Shacknews is reaching out to Valve for comment and any additional instructions, but in the meantime, users are advised to brace for the worst. Those that have not visited Steam today, do NOT visit Steam until this is all sorted, or else you could be caught in the caching web.

Update (2:33PM PT): There is more speculation coming in from the community-run, unofficial site, Steam Database, offering further insight into what might have happened, in regards to the rogue caching issue. More importantly, the site is offering sound advice on unlinking your PayPal information from your Steam account, if absolutely necessary. There is still no official word from Valve at this time, but Shacknews will continue monitoring this situation.

Update (3:40PM PT): There is a sense of cautious optimism that the issue has been resolved, with no issues indicated on the unofficial Steam Database. However, there is still no official statement from Valve in regards to this issue, so be careful out there.

Update (5:33PM PT): Valve has issued the following statement to Shacknews:

Steam is back up and running without any known issues. As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour. This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users.
