Prison Break: "Progeny" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

The penultimate episode of the Prison Break revival went all in on fathers and sons; which may have actually pushed that theme far past the breaking point. The two Michaels were always going to be important to each other, and retroactively introducing the son of John Abruzzi was a callback to the original series. But revealing a long-lost son for T-Bag and then telling us that it was Whip all along? That takes a lot of nerve.

To Robert Knepper’s credit, he plays the hell out of his scene with Whip and the audio confession in the car, both of which gave T-Bag a rare emotional showcase. Knepper is a terrific performer, and he almost makes it all work. The problem is that the show never convincingly set up T-Bag’s redemptive turn. As shown in this episode, it really was Michael who set T-Bag loose upon the world and gave him a robot hand. Why? And how? Are we really supposed to believe that Michael set all of that up while rotting in prison for years with only occasional internet access?

Endless Space 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

I first realized Endless Space 2 would be a game I'd enjoy upon discovering that one of its main factions is a race of treants called the Unfallen. They approach the grand 4X strategy adventure of exploring, expanding, exploiting, and exterminating by spreading peace and harmony throughout the galaxy. It's essentially the March of the Ents on a galactic scale, complete with featherweight philosophical talk in quest popups about fire being a force that both creates and destroys. Other turn-based 4X games might leave establishing faction personality at that, but Endless Space 2 goes even deeper, setting the Unfallen apart from their competition by giving them their own expansion technique that relies on spreading vines from system to system and connecting the whole endeavor to a central heart. That's but a taste of what makes Endless Space 2 one of the most aesthetically appealing 4X games to come out during the recent revival.

Agents of SHIELD: Season 4 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Full spoilers for Marvel's Agents of SHIELD continue below.

With its fourth season, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is the best it's ever been, maturing as a show and learning the right lessons from what's come before.

Network scheduling shifts prompted some of the best creative changes for the series, with its move back to 10 p.m. allowing for darker tones and story material, and multiple breaks throughout the year inspiring the writers to lean into a three-pod format. Because of those two key changes, Agents of SHIELD was able to dig deeper into its introduction of Ghost Rider and exploration of artificial intelligence, to successful results.

Season 4 was broken into three pods tied together by the central plot device of the Darkhold: "Ghost Rider," which introduced Robbie Reyes and his conflict with his Uncle Eli; "L.M.D.," which saw Radcliffe and AIDA's experiments with artificial intelligence take a dark turn when the Darkhold became involved; and "Agents of Hydra," which threw SHIELD's agents into an alternate reality that they needed to escape. Each was more successful than the pod that came before, with the arrival in the Framework being the strongest arc of the season.

Razer ManO'War Gaming Headset Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The Razer ManO'War (See if on Amazon) is the company's flagship headset, and improves on the mid-level Razer Kraken Pro V2 by adding wireless functionality, 7.1 surround sound, a lighter design, and RGB lighting. These are certainly big improvements, so let's see if they justify its exorbitant $169 MSRP, which is more than twice as much as the Kraken V2 Pro.
