More Ghostbusters Equals More Fun

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The Ghostbusters franchise has gone through a number of varied incarnations over the years, transitioning from the original movies to animated series like The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters to the 2016 movie reboot. One of the perks of IDW's long-running Ghostbusters comic  is that all of these incarnations are allowed to coexist and intermingle. These books have established an entire Ghostbusters multiverse (one in which the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles also exist, because why not?). The premise with IDW's latest Ghostbusters comic couldn't be more straightforward or appealing. What if every incarnation of the Ghostbusters joined forces for one epic, paranormal adventure?

Tomb Raider Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

At its best, Tomb Raider is a passable action movie. It has some cool fight scenes and a neat tomb to raid. But this iteration of iconic adventurer Lara Croft misses the mark by reducing her identity to her relationship with her missing father and her physical prowess. This movie may directly lift many elements from the excellent 2013 video game reboot, but it disappointingly chooses not to adapt what made Lara an interesting and deep character.

Seven years after Richard Croft’s disappearance, the estranged Lara has abandoned her family fortune and instead chosen to work as a courier who struggles to make ends meet. The first few scenes go to great lengths to prove her athleticism, but fail to develop Lara’s character beyond mild angst as she drifts through life. The fact that she had no prior interest in archeology or desire for adventure makes her a bland heroine next to the video game character, despite Alicia Vikander’s best attempts to bring life to Lara. She only finds something to care about after she discovers her father’s secret archeology hideout. She then uses his research on the uncharted island of Yamatai and its supernatural queen, Himiko, to look for him.

Kirby Star Allies Review - The Best Kirby Game Ever

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

As Nintendo’s chameleon character, Kirby is only as interesting as the abilities he copies. With up to four players controlling him and his new elementally powered friends, Kirby Star Allies gives him a lot to work with. You can mix, match, and combine abilities to reach greater heights than a Kirby game ever has before. Whether it’s working together to solve environmental puzzles or charging up weapons, this engaging and colorful co-op platformer allows everyone to shine in a whimsical adventure that ends just a bit too quickly.

In addition to Kirby’s trademark copying power in which he absorbs the abilities of enemies he slurps up, you can now toss hearts at enemies to turn them to your cause, letting you use their abilities at the same time. So while Kirby may start solo, you soon ally with up to three more fighters who’re controlled by your friends or a helpful AI. Together you’ll tear through the vibrant and energetic levels, and the resulting melee begins to feel more like a very cute beat-‘em-up than a traditional Kirby platformer – especially when tangling with the varied and creative bosses and minibosses. Arenas practically explode with fiery projectiles, hazardous elements, and hilarious team attacks, but thanks to the well-defined art style things never got so out of hand that I couldn’t pick out my character from the chaos.

Assassin's Creed Origins: The Curse of the Pharaohs DLC Review - A Mystical Journey

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Assassin’s Creed Origins: The Curse of the Pharaohs takes you on a compelling journey through ancient Egypt filled with desecrated tombs, restless spirits, and haunting trips to the afterlife. Coming face to face with the undead shadows of the great pharaohs is both a fun fight and an interesting depiction of Egyptian myth that’s rarely been seen. Encounters like these make this DLC difficult to put down. (If you missed it, check out our Assassin's Creed Origins review.)

Curse of the Pharaohs has all the things that make an Assassin's Creed game great: a story with themes relevant to the time period, combat that’s both challenging and fun, and a stunning historical setting that ties it all together. In this adventure, Bayek travels south of Siwa to the bustling city of Thebes, which is a hub for trade and beautiful monuments. It’s conveniently nestled along the Nile river across the water from the Valley of the Kings, and home to the temples of Karnak and Luxor. These temples are the city’s biggest landmarks, featuring lush gardens, lotus blossom ponds, and ornate architecture that make Thebes a place that’s full of opportunities to explore.
