A.I.C.O. Incarnation Season 1 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

An original animation from studio Bones, A.I.C.O. Incarnation is directed by Kazuya Murata with character design by Hanaharu Naruko, the same duo that worked on Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. Just like Gargantia, A.I.C.O. is quintessential sci-fi. Bones, one of Japan’s most accomplished studios responsible for anime like My Hero Academia and Mob Pyscho 100, has produced A.I.C.O. as an anime series for Netflix. The result is a rather serious anime that follows a television series format.

The year is 2035; the setting, Toyama Prefecture, Japan. A transmission from the Kurobe Dam reservoir had reported that artificial cells created at the Kiryu Biotech Research Facility (later referred to as the Primary Point) had grown out of control, swallowing everything in sight. Gates were built to hold the line and stop the spread of “Matter” just before it hit the Sea of Japan. This incident is referred to as the Burst, and all of the area upstream was deemed Malignant Matter Area; Divers are tasked with recovering research results in these heavily restricted and highly dangerous locations.

Frank Miller's 300 Prequel Delivers More of the Same

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This book has been a long time coming. Dark Horse published Frank Miller's original 300 miniseries way back in 1998. Since then, we've seen a film adaptation and a prequel, but only now has Miller finally wrapped work on his own continuation of the 300 saga. The title of this series implies a much larger sense of scope, tracing the downfall of the Persian Empire and the rise of Alexander the Great in the century after the events of 300. Unfortunately, little of that scope is evident in this first issue. Xerxes #1 spins a yarn that will be very familiar to readers of the original series.

When it first first announced nearly a decade ago, Xerxes was expected to serve as the basis for what eventually became 300: Rise of an Empire. That connective tissue is still evident here. Xerxes #1 offers comparatively straightforward account of the Battle of Marathon. We see an invading army of Persians clashing with Athenian general Miltiades and his ragtag army. There's the familiar narration and emphasis on a heroic few confronting a larger, superior force. It's all very reminiscent of the original 300 in tone, presentation and the way it romanticizes this particular conflict. And as much as that approach retains a raw, visceral appeal, it's not exactly enough to justify revisiting this universe after so long.

The Predator line is the backbone of Acer’s gaming monitors. They have a distinct style and a great reputation. The XB321HK (See it on Amazon) / (See it on Amazon UK) is the company's 32-inch 4K IPS offering that comes with G-Sync and a few gamer-centric options, making it essentially a bigger version of the company's 27" model. All of that comes at a price, though; namely an MSRP of $1,100. But if you’re looking for a widescreen 4K gaming experience and have a Nvidia GPU, the XB321HK is an extremely compelling display. DC Honors Batman and Catwoman's History

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Batman #44 is a deceptively deep comic. On the surface, it appears to be just one more Tom King-penned comic exploring the relationship between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle. Not that King and his collaborators haven't struck gold in that area in the past, but it's nothing we haven't seen before on this book. It's only when you begin picking apart the story and comparing it to the classic Batman tales it references that the true significance of this story becomes apparent.

On one hand, Batman #44 tells a basic, straightforward story about Selina feeling restless ahead of her impending wedding. Even as her fiancé sleeps, Selina hits the town in search of her ideal wedding dress. And as she ponders her choice, she reflects back on some of her past encounters with Batman and her own mercurial nature. The end result is a sparse but elegant story, one that helps move the series one step closer to the big wedding day.
