Silver Surfer Has Never Looked Better

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Marvel's strategy for Silver Surfer over the last couple decades is one that honestly should be employed more often. Rather than constantly keeping the character on the stands through one ongoing series or another, Norrin Radd tends to come and go on a whim. If there's a creative team with a strong pitch, Marvel will publish a short but enjoyable Silver Surfer miniseries (Silver Surfer: Requiem, Silver Surfer: In Thy Name, etc.). Every once in a while we might get a bigger, more in-depth project like Dan Slott and Mike Allred's Silver Surfer run, but even that only lasted for as long as thew two had stories to tell. This approach helps keep the standard of quality high while preventing readers from getting burnt out on the character.  Silver Surfer: Black looks like it'll have no trouble continuing that trend.

Men In Black: International Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Men in Black: International isn’t a reboot, but it acts like one. The original movie’s plot beats are out in full force here: a young recruit is paired with an aloof, experienced agent and immediately gets embroiled in a world-threatening mystery that centres around a landmark built for a World’s Fair. There are chrome guns, cars with red buttons, fist-sized aliens and Frank the Pug. If any of the core characters from the original were actually in this, they’d probably make a quip about how familiar all this is. Yet somehow, in spite of all of that, International manages to fundamentally misunderstand practically everything that made the original film so endearing, and so enduring.

Borderlands 2: Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary DLC Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It turns out those completely unbelievable rumors about a Borderlands 2 DLC bridging the gap between part 2 and the upcoming part 3 are entirely true. Commander Lilith and the Fight for Sanctuary is the first DLC for Borderlands 2 since Sir Hammerlock vs. the Son of Crawmerax back in 2014 – and, for the next 30 days, it’s free. The promotional nature of it initially had me a little concerned Fight for Sanctuary would feel rushed and/or half-assed, but I'm here to tell you it's not. It's great and I can't stop playing it.

The 10-hour story picks up immediately after the events at the end of Borderlands 2. Gearbox courteously warns new players of the potential spoilers, but honestly, this DLC isn't for new players anyway. If you're like me and you've switched platforms since playing the original Borderlands 2 (in my case from Xbox 360 to PC), Gearbox has your back: You can roll a new level-30 character using any of the Borderlands 2 Vault Hunters and dive right into the Fight for Sanctuary.

Splitgate: Arena Warfare Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

As a rule, portal guns make everything better. In the case of Splitgate, the ability for every player to place two ends of a teleporter turns an otherwise average arena FPS into a smart, tactical, team-based shooter in which outthinking your opponents is more important than outgunning them. It just doesn’t do a great job of putting its best maps in the forefront for new players, which may be contributing to a downward spiral of problems stemming from low server populations. It deserves better.

You start each 4v4 round of Domination, King of the Hill, or Team Deathmatch with a portal gun that can place two portals on shiny blue surfaces spread around the map, allowing you to instantly pass between them, or shoot through one to hit an enemy standing near the other. It’s more than just a gimmick because these portals give you far more tactical options than in your average arena shooter. Emerging from a portal on a perfectly timed flank makes me feel very clever indeed, and even if your aim is poor you can still have a big impact on matches through smart positioning.
