Mr. Right Review

Most people, when they go on dates, learn the name of the person with whom they are on the date. It is, generally speaking, seen as an essential part of the process. What then would you do if you were on a date (or a second date) and when you asked the name of the person opposite you, they refuse to answer?

This is the question Martha (Anna Kendrick) is faced with at one point in the new movie, Mr. Right. The amazing thing about the Paco Cabezas-directed, Max Landis-written, movie is that when Sam Rockwell's deranged hitman refuses to answer (for what it's worth, his name is Francis) Martha only has momentary hesitation about continuing to date him, and yet the movie manages to keep chugging along. It is just as believable a moment as anything else in the movie, and even if you mark that down as "not very," you simply won't care – within the world of this New Orleans-set film it's a more or less forgivable omission and the movie quickly moves past it.
