Now that there marriage seems to be in a more or less stable state, Leonard and Penny have mostly settled into becoming background players on the current season of The Big Bang Theory. Rarely is either the character the focus of any given storyline. Nor do they seem to have any running conflict to compete with Sheldon and Amy's relationship drama, Howard and Bernadette's pregnancy woes or Raj's perpetual loneliness. "The Big Bear Precipitation" felt like a belated attempt to reverse that trend and find a new source of drama in Leonard and Penny's world. Whether that will yield strong results remains to be seen, but at least this episode served as a solid step in the right direction.
