New Harmonix game, others coming to Apple TV – touch screen remote can be used as controller

Truly epic item from VG247...

During Apple’s big event today, it showed off the new Apple Watch and iPad. We expected that; however, it also unveiled the revamped Apple TV which will also play games on your big screen. This was expected as well.

Apple TV features a third-party App Store and an overhauled operating system which “runs on tvOS” based on iOS.

Demos of games shown included various mobile titles such as Hipster Whale, Shadowmatic, and the new mobile Guitar Hero game from Activision.

Crossy Road is also coming to the Apple TV with multiplayer, and Harmonix is releasing its new title Beat Sports exclusively for the device.

According to Engadget, which is live blogging the conference, Beat Sports “combines the joy of hitting balls with the joy of hitting notes.”

The Apple TV remote contains a touch screen, and when you turn it to the side, you can use it to control the games using swipes and other gestures.

The Apple conference is ongoing, and once we receive PRs on the games announced, we’ll add more to this post.
