This issue brings the series' second story arc to a close, as Spidey wraps up his time in Shanghai and his latest battle with Mister Negative. Unfortunately, this story doesn't manage to stick the landing thanks to a surprisingly anticlimactic finish. What began as a fun new chapter in Peter Parker's international travels becomes a minor detour in the end.
This issue does at least deliver when it comes to epic Spider-Man action. Artist Matteo Buffagni has excelled in taking advantage of the Shanghai setting, crafting open battles with plenty of vertical height to them. This issue brings the Spider-Mobile back into the fray and further ramps up the spectacle. Buffagni can't quite generate quite the sense of motion Giuseppe Camuncoli did with his Spider-Mobile sequences, but these scenes are impressive nonetheless. The main visual problem this issue wrestles with the the murky coloring. Certain scenes (the press conference in particular) are simply too dimly lit.
