Phew.
No words.
Okay, I guess I have to muster up some words here, this being a review and all. But, man, did this episode get to me. It was so amazing. And while I don't usually make pleas for actors to receive award recognition for their work, Jon Bernthal was incredible in this episode. His long speech at the end, in the cemetery with Matt, waiting to get picked up by the cops, just ruined me. It was so wrenching and beautiful. So, you know, perhaps something nice will happen to Jon come awards season. Since Daredevil is now easily recognized as being more than just a "superhero" show.
Anyhow, "Penny and Dime" is getting a big fat 10 from me. As the sort of closing chapter to this initial Punisher arc (maybe he'll be back this season, maybe not... but probably), it was intense and moving in all the right ways. And while we didn't learn all of Frank Castle's story, we learned enough to turn him from psychopath to severely sympathetic avenger. One who'd finally hit a brick wall - hard - and needed to be rescued by the vigilante he'd just spent a very violent evening holding in utter contempt.
