The 64 an unofficial Commodore 64 remake in computer and handheld formats seeks funding on Indiego

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Retro Games Ltd. has launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $150,000 in funding for The 64, an old-meets-new take on Commodore's best-selling Commodore 64 computer.

"Developed using the latest (old) technology, the highly passionate team behind The 64 is excited to bring you not only a classic desktop version of The 64 but also a brand new handheld version meaning classic gaming, on the go," according to the Indiegogo page.

Assuming it hits its funding goal, The 64 will ship with a joystick, a bundle of classic C64 games, and exclusive content. Technically, The 64 will exist as two consoles: the computer, and the handheld. Funding tiers let you choose whether you want to receive one or both, as well as add games to your bundle.

The project is helmed by Darren Melbourne, an engineer responsible for designing and building Retro's C64DTV retro console as well as other related projects.

Retro anticipates a quick turnaround: according to its crowdfunding page, it expects to deliver consoles this December, just in time for the holidays.
