It's not often that a developer is given the tools to link up its players on one platform, such as PC, with those on another platform, like Xbox One. Thanks to Microsoft's cross-network policies, Rocket League developer Psyonix has been able to do just that, and will let worlds collide between Xbox One and PC players on Steam beginning today at 6pm Eastern / 3pm Pacific.
"Cross-network play has been something that Xbox One gamers have been asking us for since the day we launched, and thanks to Microsoft's new cross-network policies, we're proud to give it to them," said Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham in a press release.
Rocket League drove onto PC and PlayStation 4 in 2015, and hit Xbox One in February 2016. Roughly two million players have partaken in the Xbox version since then; later today, their pool of opponents and teammates will grow exponentially.
Once Rocket League gets patched to enable cross-network play, you'll be able to compete as usual, or open a match up to players on other platforms by checking a box in the game's Options menu.
If you've yet to go tire-to-tire in Rocket League's unique pairing of soccer and crazy vehicle physics, consider holding out for the collector's edition, a version of the game on physical media that will be available on June 24 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
