It's curious now how CBS, not known for stretching far beyond its bread and butter blueprint of the crime procedural, decided a few years back that summer would be the place for aliens. Or, in the case of Zoo, rampaging animals. Whether they're trapping people inside a dome or possibly living as a baby inside Halle Berry, aliens, and full serialization, get a big pass for a few months, allowing a show like BrainDead - ostensibly a comedy - to land on our laps.
From Good Wife creators Robert King and Michelle King, BrainDead - which premieres Monday, June 13th - certainly has something in its craw. It's got something to say about American politics and you're gonna listen. Setting a "Body Snatchers" style story in the present day Washington, D.C. - yes, loud soundbites from Donald Trump, Hilary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and more pepper the background - is its clumsy, cliched way of saying "Don't politicians feel like hive-minded zombies?" This is the extent of the commentary. It's not subtle. It's also the extent, really, of the comedy.
