Describing eSports as a "cultural phenomenon at its tipping point," (via Polygon), Senior vice president of Activision Blizzard Media Networks Mike Sespo announced that the conglomerate would be expanding its coverage of eSports competitions by updating MLG.tv, which it acquired earlier this year, and collaborating with Facebook Live.
Facebook Live lets clients stream match-ups through Facebook, reaching a growing community of players. A recent report says that over 300 million users watch eSports competition. That number is expected to grow to one billion by the end of 2016.
Activision Blizzard will detail specifics regarding its plans to augment MLG.tv on June 10, the date on which it will host the MLG Anaheim Open tournament for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 players. The tournament will be streamed to Facebook users as well.
