Marvel already released one prelude to their upcoming Civil War II event in the form of the Civil War II FCBD Special. However, that issue was less a prologue than a tease of what's to come, and whether it was intended as a flash-forward or merely a vision of what could happen is anyone's guess at this point. Civil War II #0 is a much more of a proper prologue. It touches base with most of the main players before the conflict gets underway and explores the central ideological divide that forms the story's backbone. In the process, this issue accomplishes exactly what readers expect out of a prologue. It's not so crucial to the larger story that it should have been labeled "Civil War II #1," but it does lend much-needed depth and context to the conflict.
