Family Guy wrapped up its 14th season this week. An impressive feat, to be sure, but the show's quality has sunk to the point where there's rarely any cause for excitement. The hope was that Season 14 could end on a high note by revisiting the "Road to..." formula that has spawned several of the show's stronger episodes. This time around, Brian and Stewie's globetrotting antics took them to the exotic land of India. The show had all the ingredients for an epic journey full of romance and intricately choreographed dance sequences. Instead, what we got was a distressingly familiar Family Guy experience.
The catalyst for Brain and Stewie's latest trip was solid enough. Brian managed to turn a broken computer into a love connection as he flirted on the phone with his tech support agent, Padma (voiced by Futurestates' Sheetal Sheth). This opening sequence leaned a bit too much on Brian's smarmy, self-absorbed writer shtick, but it did yield a few bursts of humor. The revelation that Brian doesn't understand the concept of time zones (and then tried to cover that by pointing out that India uses the metric system) was pretty clever.
