Harley Quinn #28 Review

If you've ever wondered what would happen if Harley Quinn and Deadpool crossed paths, this ongoing series' current storyline is probably the closest thing to an answer you'll see anytime soon. There's a lot of fun to be had as Harley butts heads with this thinly veiled parody of the Marc With a Mouth. Though disappointingly brief in the end, this arc helps the series regain its footing while also setting new wheels in motion.

The basic conceit of this pairing is that Red Tool (see, totally not Deadpool) has fallen head over heels for Harley and has arranged an elaborate wedding to cement their love. It's easy to picture Red Tool being written off as a one-note villain - more creepy stalker loser than legitimate character - but Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti don't make the mistake of dismissing him. Red Tool instead comes across as a fully realized person with wants and desires and even a rather sweet fascination with Harley. Sure, it's a little weird and a bit sleazy for a secret admirer to kidnap the object of their affection and tattoo his phone number on their behind, but by the end of this issue the two characters form a pretty tangible connection. Red Tool's analysis of Harley's life and personality serves as a winning tribute to a complex, funny and sometimes very tragic character.
