Physical copies of Overwatch will go on sale on May 23, one day early

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Although Blizzard won't flip the switch to activate Overwatch servers until Tuesday, May 24, Best Buy has been notifying customers who preordered the game that they can pick up their discs the day prior.

The report comes from GameSpot, who reached out to Blizzard for confirmation. A Blizzard spokesperson backed up Best Buy. "We would like for all of the players to be ready to dive straight into the action when the servers go live, so retailers are going to begin selling the game when their stores open on May 23rd."

Being able to dive straight in refers to having time to install the game from disc ahead of servers going live, keeping them neck-and-neck with those who opted to go the digital route and preload the game before launch.

No doubt Blizzard anticipates a huge turnout for the game's launch. The recent open beta for Overwatch became Blizzard's most popular open beta ever, logging 9.7 million participants.

Overwatch will launch on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 next Tuesday.
