What would be better than Blizzard launching Overwatch next Tuesday with 21 heroes to choose from? How about 22?
Over the past few weeks, clues have pointed to the presence of another hero fighting alongside the nearly two dozen others Blizzard has prepared for the game's release next Tuesday, May 24—but not just any hero. Her name is Sombra, and she's a sniper if scuttlebutt found on NeoGaf can be believed.
"A French theater chain put out a teaser image claiming that a new hero would be unveiled," wrote user 'Nirolak.' The theater then backpedaled, claiming the tease was a typo. Nirolak isn't so sure, and presents a compelling case. He points out that Blizzard has confirmed that it's working on two new heroes, and is putting together a short film starring Soldier 76 and set in Dorado.
"This gives us our first clue," Nirolak wrote. "Way back in November, people noticed that there's a table in Dorado with files for Soldier 76/Jack Morrison and Sombra. Given Soldier 76 is Jack Morrison, this only leaves the mysterious Sombra file, which would fit with a Soldier 76 vs. Sombra animated short."
The long and short of the rumor is this: Sombra definitely exists. GameSpot noticed her in the character select screen when editors from the site traveled to Blizzard to shoot a making-of documentary on Overwatch's production. The question is, will she be ready at launch?
At the rate Blizzard faithful on the Internet get to the bottom of rumors, we'll probably know for sure before Overwatch releases digitally on May 24 (users interested in buying the game on disc can get copies a day early, but only to get through preloading; servers don't go live until Tuesday).
