You wouldn't know it from examining their output for the past several decades, but there was a time when the romance genre was very important to Marvel. This one-shot issue is less a vital Secret Wars tie-in and more a lighthearted throwback to those good old days. If that sounds appealing to you, you'll likely be pleased with what Secret Love has to offer.
This issue offers five short stories from five creative teams, each focusing on a different romantic pairing. Writer/artist Michael Fiffe kicks off the issue with an homage to Ann Nocenti and John Romita, Jr.'s Daredevil run and the love triangle between Matt Murdock, Typhoid Mary and Karen Page. The story is a bit clunky in terms of both the visual style and the narration-heavy approach, but that seems to be the point. This story definitely reads like a relic of the '80s - a little melodramatic, a little gritty, a little surreal a little overwrought - and as such winds up being one of the more effective of the bunch.
