Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki has revealed Dark Souls 3 will be the “turning point” for the franchise and will pave the way for something new.
According to an interview with GameSpot, Miyazaki says he wants to work on something new as he intends to launch “several new projects,” although he didn’t go into specifics as to what these projects would be. "Dark Souls is my life’s work," he shares. "Everything I came up with for Dark Souls 3 is based on my personal preferences.”
When asked if he would explore sci-fi or mech genres, Miyazaki said he “definitely wants to bring the Miyazaki Touch” to these genres.
While the Medieval and Victorian Eras have served as great settings for the Dark Souls series and Bloodborne, a sci-fi setting is something we can’t help but get excited by its prospect. We can already imagine having to fight large alien bosses that look extremely intimidating and horrifying. As for a mech game, that may be a little more difficult to see the influence of the Miyazaki Touch.
Dark Souls 3 is expected to release in spring 2016 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
