Titans: Season 2 Finale Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Titans: Season 2, Episode 13! If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for Season 2, Episode 12.

Titans: Season 2 has been a giant mess of a superhero series. An entertaining and sometimes engrossing mess, but still a mess. The series has repeatedly made the mistake on trying to take on too much at once and balance more characters than it can realistically manage. In "Nightwing," the series finally tries to tie together all its loose ends and give fans the sort of closure that was utterly lacking in Season 1's finale episode. True to form, it's only partly successful in that end.

Harley Quinn: Season 1 Spoiler-Free Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Note: this is a mostly spoiler-free review of Harley Quinn: Season 1, which airs on DC Universe weekly beginning on Friday, November 29. You can also check out our previous Season 1 premiere review. Depending on reader interest, we may circle back and do a full-spoiler review after the season finale airs in February 2020, so let us know in the comments if that's something you'd like to see.

Harley Quinn represents an important test for DC Universe, as it's the first wholly original animated series to debut on the streaming service. Terrific though it was, Young Justice: Outsiders hardly qualifies as an original project. Luckily, DCU passes that test with a fun, wacky and very foul-mouthed romp that proves what comic readers have know for years - Harley Quinn is at her best when she's a free and independent woman.

Astro A50 + Base Station Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It was 2012, and the original Avengers was just hitting theaters. “Call Me Maybe” was tearing up the charts. And Astro had just released its first wireless headset, the original Astro A50 Wireless.

For seven years, the A50 has occupied top billing as Astro's flagship headset. While technology (and Marvel movies) keeps evolving over the years, the A50s have largely remained the same. The sound quality is phenomenal, the build quality is above average, the software kind of sucks, and the price tag is still a bit shocking.

That’s not to say nothing has changed. This time around, the latest version of the Astro A50 Wireless sports a new base station, a 2.4GHz connection, and improved drivers. But is that enough to justify its $239 price, a year before next-gen consoles?

M. Night Shyamalan's Servant: Premiere Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The following is a spoiler-free review for the first episode of M. Night Shyamalan's Servant on Apple TV+. The first three episodes premiere Thanksgiving day, followed by weekly installments on Fridays.

Servant, Apple TV+'s creepy new series from M. Night Shyamalan and creator/writer Tony Basgallop, has already been picked up for a second season, which is auspicious news given that Shyamalan and Basgallop have a 60-episode saga in mind for the series, stretching over six seasons. A curious notion indeed, given that the story involves four characters and one location. It doesn't have a sprawling ensemble like Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead. Though the fact that the twisted tale takes place mostly all in one posh Philadelphia home makes production a lot simpler, set-wise.

South Park: Season 23, Episode 8 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

No other series can rival South Park’s ability to weave comedic gold out of poop jokes. Scatological humor is basically baked into the series’ DNA thanks to Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo. It was also the secret ingredient of one of the most uproariously funny episodes ever in 2007’s “More Crap,” which was an intentionally lowbrow response to the series’ recent Emmy win. And now, 12 years later, it’s clear South Park is still the king of the hill when it comes to really bizarre yet really entertaining poop jokes.

Every so often, South Park flirts with returning to “the good old days,” when topical humor was less a concern than simply pushing the boundaries of good taste and seeing what wacky hijinks Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny could get into. “Turd Burglars” feels like the most concerted attempt yet at returning to that simpler era. Other than a few amusing references to Jedi: Fallen Order, there’s no real attempt at ripping inspiration from current news headlines. This episode doesn’t even really build on the rest of Season 23 other than that recurring joke where we all pretend South Park was canceled in Season 22 and the episode is presented as a spinoff.

Venom #20 Review: An Essential Absolute Carnage Epilogue

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It's a bit of a relief to be on the other side of the Absolute Carnage tunnel. While that storyline ranks among Marvel's better crossover events in recent years, it still suffers from that all too familiar flaw where the core miniseries tells a very straightforward, action-oriented tale. In this case, most of the deeper character work is reserved for tie-in books like Venom and The Amazing Spider-Man. Now that Venom is on its own again, it's free to tell a fuller and more cohesive story. And if there's any takeaway from issue #20, it's that Eddie Brock faces a very exciting and unpredictable future.

Even if you don't follow this series month-to-month, it's worth reading Venom #20 as an epilogue to to Absolute Carnage. This issue examines the aftermath of the crossover and how it affects Eddie, his son Dylan and even The Maker for good measure. Writer Donny Cates makes it abundantly clear that Knull's reawakening is only one of the major developments coming out of the crossover. This issue introduces significant new wrinkles to the mythology of the symbiotes and works to forge deeper connections between Eddie and The Maker. As fascinating a villain as this interdimensional Reed Richards is, his presence in the series has always felt a bit arbitrary. That changes in a big way now.

X-Force Is Now Marvel's Most Important X-Men Comic

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

In terms of plot, it's safe to say X-Force is the most important companion series to Jonathan Hickman and Leinil Yu's monthly X-Men comic. But two issues in, maybe it's best to go a step further. This isn't just the most crucial Dawn of X tie-in; it's actually doing more to set the tone and direction of the franchise than X-Men itself. X-Force is rapidly becoming the proverbial "if you only read one X-Men comic..." title. It's just as well the series is actually good on top of that.

All of this stems from issue #1's unexpected cliffhanger - the apparent assassination of Charles Xavier. Even in an era where death doesn't mean much for the X-Men anymore, that's a pretty big deal. The question is less whether Xavier's death will stick for any real length of time than how the X-Men's resurrection machine works without such a crucial component in place. Not to mention what goes wrong if a less experienced psychic makes a mistake. Those questions fuel a very fast-paced and exciting followup chapter. We don't necessarily get all the answers yet, but the book wastes no time diving into the immediate fallout of this assassination and the X-Men's response.

Mortal Kombat 11 - Sindel DLC Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Sindel is disgusting. And by that I mean that she’s both a deplorable person and she has some nasty tricks in Mortal Kombat 11 that are sure to make her a huge threat against the rest of the roster. She’s an absolute monster in the mid range, with an overhead that reaches from a football field away that will certainly remind MKX players of Kung Jin; a Krushing Blow on her scream that can whiff punish and delete nearly half your life bar; and a deadly flipping overhead that can quickly close the distance, score a knock down, and put her in range to threaten your wake-up.

Fans of Mortal Kombat 9’s Sindel may be surprised to learn that this time around she’s actually not much of a true zoner, which is great because MK11’s got enough of those. MK11’s Sindel’s best range is at mid-screen, where she can threaten with her giant polearm that hits overhead; her chargeable scream, which can be cancelled, enhanced, and will Krushing Blow on a counter hit; and her back + 3, 4 string, which has surprising range and can combo into big damage.

The midrange category of 4K TVs has been getting crowded over the past few years with TCL and Hisense joining the fray, so it’s important to try and stand out from the pack. TCL manages to do that with the 55R625 (See it on Amazon), the 2019 version of its 6-series line of TVs (we reviewed the excellent 55R617 last year). It has amazing color and grayscale, deep blacks, and an auto game mode for us gamers. You might be able to get a brighter set, but it’ll cost you a few hundred dollars more. Arrow: Season 8, Episode 6 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Arrow: Season 8, Episode 6! If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for Season 8, Episode 5.

In the interest of not burying the lede, “Reset” is easily the strongest chapter of Arrow” Season 8 since the premiere. It’s no coincidence this episode also happens to be the most similar in terms of tone and plot. “Reset” embraces the larger-than-life mature of the Crisis while also delivering a fond farewell to one of the series’ most important supporting characters.

Much like how Susanna Thompson and John Barrowman stopped by in the premiere, there’s no way the series could take its final bow without bringing Paul Blackthorne’s Quentin Lance back one last time. Quentin was there since day one, and over the course of six seasons he evolved and grew as much as any character. “Reset” encapsulates that growth nicely, highlighting just how much the dynamic between Quentin and Ollie evolved as they went from bitter rivals to close-knit friends and allies. Plus, with as convoluted a history as the Lance sisters have in the Arrowverse, it’s only fitting Quentin gets a quick hop in the superhero resurrection machine.

The Flash: Season 6, Episode 7 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Full spoilers for The Flash continue below.

Over six seasons of The Flash, we’ve seen Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) tempted by darkness and alternate possibilities, and every time, it has usually ended up coming at a cost. With a Crisis (on Infinite Earths) coming less than two days away in series’ time, Barry is forced to confront his insecurities at a time when he knows he has seen many variations of his world’s end.

“The Last Temptation of Barry Allen, Part 1” was a mixed bag for me. It hits when it moves forward and lagged a bit for me whenever we were stuck in Barry’s mind, as these are tropes that I’m frankly over in the various series in the Arrowverse. One might argue that such a psychological story is the hearty meal that comes before the “dessert” that will be next week’s inevitable confrontation between Bloodwork (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and Team Flash, but for now, Ramsey Rosso’s attempt at getting Barry to accept his “lifeblood” felt like the show was treading on all-too-familiar territory.

1917 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This is a spoiler-free advance review for 1917, which opens in limited release December 25 and in wide release January 10, 2020.

Set over less than 24 hours on the Western Front, the harrowing 1917 is both simple in its story and breathtaking in its execution, intimate yet epic. Director Sam Mendes has delivered a completely engrossing survival thriller about two young British soldiers, Schofield (George MacKay) and Blake (Dean-Charles Chapman), on a perilous mission behind enemy lines.

Neither soldier is written to be particularly exceptional upon their introduction; they’re just two of the countless Everyman troops fighting in the First World War. It’s their very ordinariness and almost anonymous nature that lends this duo immediate sympathy and relatability. Blake and Schofield could be anyone, but they’ve been tasked with doing something extraordinary and heroic in the face of relentless danger: To deliver a time-sensitive message to another division to prevent them from falling into a German trap. If they fail to deliver it then 1600 soldiers, including Blake’s older brother, will die.

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series - Episode 3 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

As I wrapped up my playthrough of Vader Immortal’s third and final episode, my reaction was “Huh. So that’s it?” The novelty of a VR Star Wars experience had worn off a while ago, and Vader Immortal’s threadbare mechanics had long since run out of steam, leaving only its mediocre plot. Maybe it’s partially because I’m fresh off the far superior storytelling of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but to put it mildly, this finale was underwhelming.

Virtually nothing new is introduced during Episode 3’s 45 short minutes as Vader Immortal’s weirdly mystical, MacGuffin-based adventure resolves. If you’re played Episodes 1 and 2, it goes pretty much exactly the way you probably expect. There was never anything even approaching a surprising development outside of its trite deus ex machina ending. And while Vader is as large and imposing a presence as ever, I couldn’t help but think about how similar the climactic lightsaber battle it had all been building toward was to sparring with droids in the first episode.

Little Women Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

After her critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated directorial debut Lady Bird, Greta Gerwig could have taken on any project in the world, and at first glance her choice was a surprisingly safe one. Louisa May Alcott's Little Women is one of the most widely read books in North America and has long been seen as a literary classic. That fact and the often stuffy and dated feel of period pieces mean that Gerwig's new project may seem a world away from the teen angst of Lady Bird. But as fans of the book will know, the narrative of young women struggling to find their places in a world that doesn't seem to fit them are shared over both the 2018 film and Alcott's novel from over a century before. It should be unsurprising then that Gerwig is a great fit to direct a thoroughly interesting and timely take on the sweetly radical story of the March sisters.

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Rick and Morty: Season 4, Episode 3. If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for Season 4, Episode 2.

Rick and Morty generally isn’t at its best when it sticks to spoofing one specific pop culture franchise. Fortunately, that’s not something the show’s generally been guilty of post-Season 1. Walking Dead's Midseason Finale Poorly Prepped Michonne's Exit

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for The Walking Dead's Season 10 midseason finale follow...

With last week's episode, "Open Your Eyes," showcasing Season 10's best efforts to date, it was unlikely the midseason finale was going to top it. And it didn't. But it sure seemed like it was trying during the first 20 minutes or so, when we got all our questions about Dante answered, Rosita took him down (and saved Coco from a zombified Siddiq), and Gabriel went nuts and murdered Dante in his cell.

Those were all very interesting and intense moments. And I mentioned last week how I hoped Rosita would get to be the one to take that Dante out. I was just afraid things wouldn't come to a head as quickly as they did. Like, that the episode would take its sweet-ass time with the full reveal of Dante's betrayal. But we got it right out of the gate, so "The World Before" gets some solid points for digging into it right quick.

Watchmen: Season 1, Episode 6 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This review contains spoilers for Watchmen episode 6, "This Extraordinary Being." To refresh your memory of where we left off, check out our recap of Watchmen episode 5.

The other shoe drops (and how!) with the sixth episode of HBO’s Watchmen. When Angela Abar (Regina King) was arrested in episode 5, for covering up her grandfather’s part in a murder, she swallowed his memories in pill form. This week, “This Extraordinary Being” takes us through Abar’s mind as she re-lives the past from Will’s perspective. It’s a uniquely conceived hour of television that digs deep into Watchmen history, not only by pointing a camera at the comic’s unexplored corners, but by staying in conversation with Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ original text. In doing so, the show creates a continuum between page and screen — between past and present — by presenting a walkthrough of Will’s life in long, seemingly unbroken takes. A visual continuum, rewriting history from a specific point of view by revealing truths about white America through one of its historically whitest fictional institutions: the comic book superhero.

My Hero Academia: Season 4, Episode 6 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Episode 69, "An Unpleasant Talk," begins in a curious fashion, with Deku, Red Riot, Uravity, and Froppy called to a mysterious gathering with no idea what to expect. In addition to finding a slew of pro heroes assembled at Sir Nighteye's office, they also encounter the Big Three, Gran Torino, and even their teacher Eraser Head. Will this lead to an action-packed episode, a funny escapade, or a dramatic raising of the stakes?

It turns out to be mostly the third option, but with a caveat: in the episode’s first half, the stakes are raised, but in a very uneventful and clunky way. After our four members of Class 1-A arrive at this heroic meeting, a discussion surrounding the new villains of the season gets underway, with Sir Nighteye explaining what we know so far about Shie Hassaikai, their leader Chisaki (Overhaul), and their plans involving a quirk-stopping drug and how it is procured.

Shenmue 3 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The story of Shenmue began 20 years ago, and for its time the original game was an undeniable marvel in video game storytelling and world-building. You lived Ryo Hazuki’s life, developing relationships and maintaining a day job in your Japanese hometown, all while trying to track down your father’s murderer so you could extract vengeance. Time has not been kind to that original game, nor its 2001 sequel, as video game stories and performance capture tech have improved drastically. In many ways, Shenmue 3 is a stark reminder of the leaps and bounds developers have made in the last 20 years. That’s not to say there isn’t a compelling experience here – it just feels out of time and doesn’t reward the Shenmue faithful with meaningful revelations in the story.

However, in reality, Stadia is still missing more than half the functionality Google initially promised. Meanwhile, some users who ordered the Founders Edition finally got access codes to the service at least two days after it launched to the public on November 19th.

In spite of all these issues, the fact that Google Stadia (see it at the Google Store) works and makes game streaming look good is commendable. Come with us as we take a deep dive into the service that could be the future of gaming as we know it.

Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Unlike a traditional stealth game focused on keeping yourself out of view or secretly taking out unsuspecting foes at close range, in sniping games like Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts you’re better off keeping your distance. It’s all about reveling in the careful, precise sniping that requires methodical movements and attention to detail. Contracts, in particular, is slow at times and the obligatory escapes can be a bit boring, but the long stretches of downtime are often punctuated by exhilarating explosions of gore that make it worthwhile.

A mostly inconsequential story about oil companies, international espionage, and vague politics loosely connects 25 contract objectives across five enormous sandbox-style maps. A forgettable prologue explains why it’s morally okay to assassinate each target for money. It was nice getting some context for why I’m being asked to murder dozens of people, but at the end of the day the game is called Sniper and it gives me a long gun with slow-mo powers so I don’t need much other motivation beyond that. From there it’s just a matter of completing your objectives and cashing the check. Sometimes you’re also hacking computer terminals, planting bombs, or stealing intel – all basic stuff.

Frozen 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It's hard to follow up a movie like Frozen. The first film was a smash hit that undermined the tropes of fairy tale storytelling, sparking a renaissance in the (unconventional) Disney Princess business. With the beautiful, expansive, and frustrating Frozen 2, directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck attempt to add new lore, mythology, and a deeply political analogy which, despite early promise, ultimately misses the mark. It's a choice that muddies the message of Frozen 2 and also adds confusing continuity issues when it comes to the sisters and their newly uncovered past.

Beginning with a flashback and then jumping straight off of where the last film ended, Frozen 2 gets off to an exhilarating start that establishes new lore and slickly sets up the core conflicts of the film. With Anna (Kristen Bell) and Elsa (Idina Menzel) reunited and safe -- the latter now ruling over Arendelle and the former just happy in her new status quo -- things seem to be back to normal. That is until a mysterious voice begins to call to Elsa, eventually leading her to a mysterious enchanted forest. However, an early reveal about one of their parents proves a nagging continuity issue.

Always Sunny's Season 14 Finale Could Work as a Series Finale

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Spoilers for the Season 14 finale of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia follow...

Always Sunny closed up shop on its fourteenth (and final?) season with a double-header (though not a two-parter) that crescendoed with "Waiting for Big Mo" - a bottle episode laced with not only the usual tragicomedy of the series in general, but with some sadness seeping in from saddling up to Samuel Beckett's famous play "Waiting for Godot."

We don't need to dive into the Godot parallels too much, but they're there, and funny for those who know the play. The tree that Beckett's characters Vladimir and Estragon wait by, while bickering and debating the ultimate futility of toiling for life's unknown endgame, is now "Green Base." Life is laser tag. Godot is an unseen hot shot child using the tag Big Mo. It's a quirky, esoteric episode that nicely uses The Gang's dependable dysfunction to scrape at some larger ideas. It could also act as a series finale if, somehow, FX doesn't announce a Season 15 renewal.

Deadpool #1 Review: A Disappointing Marvel Relaunch

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Deadpool may have started life as a supporting character in X-Force, but he's truly grown into a franchise all his own in the three decades that have followed. That fact has its obvious downsides. Marvel's insistence on publishing multiple concurrent Deadpool books pretty much nonstop over the past ten years has ensured the character is perpetually in danger of wearing out his welcome. Rather than wiping the slate clean and giving Wade Wilson a fresh start, the latest volume of Deadpool only further contributes to the growing Deadpool fatigue.

While no doubt timed to bank on the excitement surrounding the Dawn of X relaunch, this new series has no connection to that ambitious overhaul of the X-Men franchise. This is pretty much business as usual for Wade. He accepts a mercenary job, things don't go as planned and quips are dropped and body parts are dismembered with reckless abandon. This first issue does little to break the familiar Deadpool mold, making it a tough sell to all but the most hardcore of readers.

Batman #83 Review: Deep Bat-Family Tragedy

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

We've now reached the final leg of "City of Bane" and the true climax of Tom King's Batman run. After Batman #83, there are only two more issues before King leaves the series and transitions over to Batman/Catwoman. The series is still struggling even at this late stage to create a true sense of urgency and finality. But issue #83 does accomplish at least one important goal as it provides closure to the latest grand tragedy in Bruce Wayne's life.

While Bane murdering Alfred in Batman #77 ranks among the darkest developments in an already bleak series, it's been difficult to know whether to take that death at face value. There are too many potential ways in which it could be undone or revealed as a red herring. Only with the recent announcement of the epilogue special Batman: Pennyworth RIP did it become clear Alfred's death is actually going stick (for the time being, at least). The problem with that upcoming issue is that it doesn't feature any work from King himself. Surely the writer responsible for killing off Bruce Wayne's oldest and dearest ally should have a say in sending him off. That's where Batman #83 comes in.

Alienware m15 R2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It wasn't too long ago that I took a look at the Alienware m15, a gaming laptop with a 4K UHD OLED display that I, admittedly, fell in love with. Now a few months later here I am with the Alienware m15 R2 (See it on Dell). The two laptops are similar internally, but on the outside the R2 borrows from the Legend design of the Alienware Area 51m gaming laptop.

Arrow: Season 8, Episode 5 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Arrow: Season 8, Episode 5! If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for Season 8, Episode 4.

In general, Arrow’s final season has been a bit of a letdown so far, with the Season 8 premiere setting a high standard subsequent episodes have failed to uphold. But there has been one unexpected and very welcome twist in recent weeks. The flash-forward storyline has morphed from a tedious and seemingly unnecessary element into Arrow’s saving grace. “Prochnost” further proves that bringing Oliver Queen’s children into the past is one of the best movies this series has made in a long time.

Queen & Slim Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The building of a legacy can best be compared to the building of a house: every brick, nail, and piece of material come together to form the finished product. The house itself is wonderful, but it truly lacks purpose without being used and lived in by people. The same goes for legacy: who you impact and what you leave inside of people is how you fortify purpose. Queen & Slim, directed by Melina Matsoukas and written by Lena Waithe, on the surface is a thriller following a Black couple after their first date on the run after accidentally killing a white police officer. But digging deep, the film puts into perspective Black legacy, the pain attached, and how we immortalize our members of the community.

Stadia Controller Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

While Stadia is all about ditching console and PCs for the best game streaming experience, the one piece of gaming hardware Google decided to introduce was the Stadia controller. Designed in house specifically to work with Google’s game streaming service, it features built-in Wi-Fi to help further eliminate input lag with games beaming over the Internet.

However, for $69—or $129 if you got the Founder’s or Premier Edition with three-months of Stadia Pro—it’s hard to say that control is really worth its asking price considering the DualShock 4 and Xbox One controller are simply better for a lower $40 price and work just fine with Stadia.

Football Manager 2020 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Picture what it must be like to be Sports Interactive studio director Miles Jacobson and his team. Every day of the year your social media feed is inundated with feedback from fans whose suggestions range from genuinely useful insights to grounds for police action. Broadly similar to being an actual football manager, in that regard. Amid all that noise, following up a widely celebrated iteration of Football Manager must feel like navigating a jungle without a map. Or with 100,000 conflicting maps. And yet Football Manager 2020 emerges from the undergrowth like a latter-day Jamie Vardy: not much to look at, but metronomically consistent, and good for another season of entertainment despite its advancing years.

21 Bridges Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Chadwick Boseman is world-renowned as the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Black Panther, a powerful superhero dedicated to justice and upholding the legacy of his noble father. But this mesmerizing American actor wants audiences to know there's more to him than rippling muscles, a hard stare, and a regal charisma. With 21 Bridges, Boseman drops the Wakandan accent and flashes an easy smile -- along with a badge -- as a cowboy cop on a mission. Produced by Boseman and Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, this hard-R crime-drama offers a graphic and gritty tale of heroics. Yet its premise has some similarities to T'Challa's origin story.

Directed by Brian Kirk, 21 Bridges begins at a funeral. The voice of a charismatic preacher booms over a quiet congregation. Listening intently as a big tear runs down his baby face is 13-year-old Andre Davis (Christian Isaiah), who grieves his father, the heroic NYPD officer in the closed casket. The preacher speaks of sacrifice, dedication, and being an avenger. Cut to decades later, Andre (Boseman) is grown and an NYPD detective looking to live up to the example his father set. However, Andre's idea of protect and serve has earned him a reputation as a "cop-killer killer." In nine years of service, he's drawn his firearm eight times, killing eight suspects. Andre carries no guilt about these deaths because he lives by a code. He never fires first or without cause. To others, he might seem a trigger-happy madman. But, Andre sees himself as a servant of justice and God. He'll do what he feels is right, whatever it takes.

Rick and Morty: Season 4, Episode 2 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Rick and Morty: Season 4, Episode 2. If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for the Season 4 premiere.

Last week’s Rick and Morty: Season 4 premiere didn’t leave much room for improvement. “Edge of ToMorty: Rick Die Rickpeat” not only the show’s strongest premiere to date, it’s also easily a top ten candidate (this list will obviously need some updating after this current batch of episodes is finished). Unsurprisingly, “The Old Man and the Seat” doesn’t meet that same high standard. It’s a looser and more experimental episode in many ways, but still plenty enjoyable in its own right.

The Walking Dead Delivered a Saboteur Shocker

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode follow...

The Walking Dead offered up some classic, but still effective, Walking Dead this week with regards to Siddiq's tragic demise.

Using the tried and true series hallmark of giving a character a big arc/spotlight episode right before the show smites them, Siddiq's Season 10 trauma angle came full circle - with the reveal that Dante, this entire time, has been Alpha's mole.

No, there was nothing more to Siddiq's perpetual delusions and nightmares beyond the fact that he saw some awful s*** go down, and that he felt guilty for not trying to do something, but it still worked. He was rightfully scarred from watching his friends die horribly. The way he hid it from everyone though seemed to suggest that he was more culpable than he was. As in, he was keeping quiet about his mental state for reasons more than just his survivor guilt.

Watchmen Episode 5 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The fifth episode of HBO’s Watchmen, “Little Fear of Lightning,” is a near-perfect hour of television. Finally, the show feels like a fully-realized sequel to the graphic novel. Finally, its nagging political puzzle snaps into place; it feels like the payoff to something mysterious, despite the lack of exciting mystery. Finally, the story focuses on one of its most intriguing characters, Tim Blake Nelson’s Looking Glass/Wade Tillman, an echo of the comic’s Rorschach. And finally, the series kick-starts its stagnant plot, providing an emotional gut-punch worthy of the Watchmen name.

Prior to this week’s entry, the show was far more concerned with worldbuilding than with walking down the path of its central mystery. Even last week’s stellar “If You Don’t Like My Story, Write Your Own” fell victim to spinning plot wheels that hadn’t moved forward since the lettuce truck in Episode 1. There were hints that something, of a nature not even vaguely teased, may eventually transpire; it felt like Lost without the alluring aesthetics or smoky mysteries to keep one tuning in. And while this revelation has not yet come to pass, the show’s fifth episode feels like faith rewarded — at least, for those of us who believed showrunner Damon Lindelof would be a perfect fit after his work on The Leftovers. And it is, in fact, The Leftovers that feels like the episode’s emotional blueprint. It opens in 1985, on the day the comic ended, and re-tells the devastation from Looking Glass’ perspective. Young Wade Tillman, a conservative “end is nigh” doomsayer, not unlike Rorschach, has his own faith rewarded in the most Hellish way possible, when he witnesses the mass death caused by Ozymandias’ giant squid being teleported into Manhattan.

Batwoman: Season 1, Episode 7 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Batwoman: Season 1, Episode 7. If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for Season 1, Episode 6.

It was rough going for a while, but Batwoman slowly seems to be finding its footing and its place in the larger Arrowverse. The series no longer feels quite so derivative of Season 1-era Arrow. Nor is it struggling so mightily to balance its large ensemble cast. If there's any takeaway from Episode 7 and the introduction of Christina Wolfe's Julia Pennyworth, it's that maybe there's room yet to expend that supporting cast.

Netflix's The Crown: Season 3 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This is a mostly spoiler-free review for Season 3 of The Crown. All 10 episodes are currently available to stream on Netflix.

Back when The Crown's showrunner, Peter Morgan, announced that the series would undergo a recast every two years in order to properly depict the passage of time for the residents of Buckingham Palace, the news was met with intrigue, but also a good bit of skepticism. How do you replace an already fantastic ensemble without disrupting the chemistry and overall look of the show? Remarkably, Morgan is able to usher in the new cast led by Oscar-winner Olivia Coleman by crafting a captivating batch of episodes that explore the royal family's complex relationships with each other, and with their subjects. There might be new faces wearing those fancy clothes, but The Crown's third season has the same heart and soul that made its first two seasons so unmissable.

My Hero Academia Season 4, Episode 5 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

This review contains spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 4, episode 5, "Let’s Go, Gutsy Red Riot."

The previous episode of My Hero Academia, “Fighting Fate” was the highpoint of the season so far, opening with some clever exposition and quick twists, and ending with an extended conversation between Deku and All Might that left us all feeling drained and moved in equal measure. However, the one thing Episode 4 lacked was a good, engaging fight scene. And so, almost as a way of rectifying that, Episode 5, “Let’s Go, Gutsy Red Riot” explodes out of the gate with an exhilarating midnight kaiju brawl. Two larger-than-life fighters have taken their disagreement to the streets and are wreaking havoc, Godzilla style, before quickly being dispatched by two heroes-in-training.

Titans: Season 2, Episode 11 Review

Warning: this review contains full spoilers for Titans: Season 2, Episode 11! If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for Season 2, Episode 10.

It's easy to dismiss Iain Glen's Bruce Wayne as mere stunt casting. Having a Batman on board is always good for business, and a Batman who also used to star in Game of Thrones? So much the better. But it turns out Glen has a lot to offer a series perpetually struggling to find its narrative balance. For the second time so far in Season 2, Bruce Wayne is the best part of an episode.

The Man in the High Castle: Season 4 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The Man in the High Castle went from being a high-concept show about an America under Nazi rule to being a higher-concept show about alternate worlds and how Nazis would want to put every America under Nazi rule. But despite its mostly successful marriage of thrilling espionage and science-fiction, High Castle has always been at its best when miring itself in the tricky moral soil that a Greater American Reich would be built on. Luckily, Season 4 does deliver some great character work that makes the most of the past three seasons’ horror. Unfortunately, those moments punctuate an otherwise troubled story, full of too many characters to service and a weakened confidence in its own central conceit.

Netflix's The Toys That Made Us: Season 3 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Note: The Toys That Made Us: Season 3 is now available to stream on Netflix.

Netflix's documentary series The Toys That Made Us is basically the ultimate nostalgia trip for kids from the '80s and '90s. The first two seasons offered a pleasurable look back at some of the defining toy lines of decades past and the often rocky road those franchises took from conception to ultimately arriving on the shelves. Season 3 does very little to break the mold, but it does prove there's still plenty of life left in this formula.

With the first two seasons having exhausted most of the more obvious choices of toy lines (Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, Barbie, etc.) Season 3 is able to dig a little deeper and explore some less predictable candidates. There's really only one gaping hole being filled in this batch (that being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), with the other three episodes venturing down a slightly more esoteric path (My Little Pony, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and pro-wrestling figures).
