Despite it’s adorable and bobbly art style, Aggretsuko’s sure to throw you one heck of a curveball. By day, Retsuko the red panda is a gentle and kind accountant, doing the best she can in a job she loathes. But by night, she relieves stress by tearing off the cutesy look for that of a much more sinister and loud death-metal karaoke enthusiast.
It’s hard to believe that this seething fluffball of rage is among the ranks of Sanrio. When I think Sanrio, I think Hello Kitty--I think Cinnamoroll. What is this fantastic, raging red panda? Are you trying to tell us how you really feel? Was the ultra-cute branding just a facade? With the first season now exclusively on Netflix, Aggretsuko is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, but one filled with laughs, truth bombs, and loads of societal commentary.
