Characters Are Key in DC's New Outsiders Series

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

It took longer than expected, but DC's latest incarnation of Batman and the Outsiders has arrived. Whether it was worth the wait may depend on your attachment to the characters in question. The new series doesn't do anything terribly new or different in its first issue, but it does boast a well-rounded team of Outsiders mainstays and Batman sidekicks. And given that the appeal of the Outsiders franchise has always been the characters more than the plot, this seems like a wise course of action.

This new series may appeal most directly to fans of James Tynion IV's Detective Comics run. It definitely scratches that ensemble Bat-book itch now that Detective has transitioned back to being a more Batman-centric comic. Writer Bryan Edward Hill actually wrote an arc of Detective last year that basically served as an epilogue to Tynion's run and a bridge between that series and this new book. Readers might be at a slight disadvantage coming into this book blind, but there's nothing that can't be gleaned over the course of reading this first issue.
