Ballers: "Head-On" Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

Ballers rebounded this week, one episode before the finale, by tackling the root cause of Spencer's psycho-drama problems. It turned out that the auto body shop owner seen briefly in last week's episode - played by Michael Cudlitz - was the guy we saw Spencer knock out of the game back in the pilot during the first flashes of his recurring nightmare.

Did Spencer wind up, in the end, getting off easy? Sure. Cudlitz' Dan, after some ball busting, wound up not only forgiving Spencer, but calling the end of his own career a "mercy killing." So yes, there was an element here of Spencer, once again, skirting real danger/conflict. But overall, this story worked well. At least, it worked better than the stuff the series has been running for a few weeks now. It actually showed Spencer, despite his stay of execution, being phenomenally bad at confrontation. His biggest flaw is that he's kind of a fraidy cat. Hesitant to revisit old wounds - especially ones he himself caused. He even balked when Joe started taking about the two of them leaving Anderson Financial.
