My Hero Academia Season 4, Episode 8 Review

This review contains full spoilers for My Hero Academia Season 4, Episode 8 (aka episode 71 overall), "Suneater of the Big Three." To refresh your memory of where we left off, check out our MHA Season 4, episode 7 review.

Episode 7, “GO!!”, was an intense build-up to what My Hero Academia seemed to be promising would be a climactic battle. So it was pretty reasonable to expect Episode 8, “Suneater of the Big Three,” to open exactly where the last episode left off. And it does, kind of, but in true My Hero Academia fashion, the episode is clever about it. Instead of a white flash leading to a crowded brawl, we begin with a shot of Amajiki (the titular Suneater) of the Big Three thinking back on his school days as a lonely new kid, where he sat, awkward and alone, in the classroom, before Mirio offered him a ray of hope and acceptance. Then we get the action shot as the group of heroes charge on the villains’ headquarters. But this is all from Amajiki’s perspective, watching Mirio charge headfirst into battle as Amajiki follows, hoping that he, another member of the Big Three, can shine the way that Mirio does.
