Cobra Kai Season 2 Review

This is a (mostly) spoiler-free review of YouTube's Cobra Kai Season 2. All 10 episodes are currently available to stream on YouTube Premium.

The three-decade-long legacy of the Karate Kid continues in Season 2 of YouTube's Cobra Kai, taking its characters to emotionally darker places this time around, yet still preserving those witty comedic aspects that made its first season so memorable. William Zabka and Ralph Macchio return to their respective leading roles as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso - resuming their war for martial arts supremacy in the Valley.

Cobra Kai's tight 10-episode structure tells a big story in a short amount of time. Johnny's transition from former high school bully to honorable sensei is still charming, as he attempts to turn his dojo into a respectable business for kids to learn karate. And while Zabka's comedic timing is excellent, there are moments when the "trapped in the mid-eighties" motif goes a bit too far. In one particular scene, for instance, Johnny is trying to log on to the internet for the first time and doesn't even know what Wi-Fi is. We get it, he's out of touch, but come on... He's not that old.
