Warning: Full spoilers for Doom Patrol Season 1, Episode 9 below. If you need a refresher on where we left off, here's our review for Season 1, Episode 8.
If recent episodes of Doom Patrol have been too Negative Man and Elasti-Woman-focused for your tastes, "Jane Patrol" offers the change of pace you've been craving. This episode is almost entirely geared toward Robotman and Crazy Jane. And given that their dynamic is one of the best things about this series, the end result is yet another satisfying addition to a strong superhero series.
The Cliff/Jane dynamic works for pretty obvious reasons. One is a lonely guy who only truly came to appreciate his family after he lost the. The other is a profoundly damaged woman (even by the standards of this team) badly in need of a father figure. But despite their early bond, we've seen the two characters grow apart in recent weeks. With that in mind, "Jane Patrol" served two valuable functions. It allowed Cliff the chance to redeem himself by saving Jane from her own madness. And it showed what it's like to actually live as one superhuman personality among 63 others.
