Given how dark and emotionally charged House of X #4 was, this X-Men relaunch could sorely use a little humor and levity. That's where Powers of X #4 comes in. This follow-up chapter not only fills in some key gaps in the new X-Men timeline, but it also delivers a hilarious overhaul of one of the most iconic X-villains of all time.
Issue #4 returns to the multi-pronged approach of Powers of X Issues #1 and #2, showcasing key events in Year 1, Year 10 and Year 1000 of X-Men history. Unfortunately, Year 100 appears to be out of the running now that those characters were killed off and that setting was revealed to be part of Moira's ninth life. It's disappointing to see the series so abruptly close the door on that storyline, especially given how fascinating new characters like Rasputin and Cardinal had become in such a short span of time. That also casts a bit of a shadow over the Year 1000 segment, as it's no longer certain in what timeline that's taking place or how relevant that material will be in the end.
