This is a review for the first three episodes of Hulu's Wu-Tang: An American Saga, which premiere all at once on Wednesday, September 4. The following seven episodes will arrive on a weekly basis.
A much different account of the Wu-Tang Clan than the RZA-produced Showtime docu-series Of Mics and Men, Wu-Tang: An American Saga goes the dramatized scripted series route for the Staten "Gattin" Island origins of RZA, GZA, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, and more.
All uniquely talented on the mic, but here, in the early "crack epidemic" '90s, separated by a drug turf war between the housing projects of Park Hill and Stapleton, the future Wu members must figure out that the only way to rise up and stand out is to band together. Which also means putting aside actual violent grievances with one another.
