Titans: Season 2 Premiere: "Trigon" Review

It's rare to see a series so completely lose its momentum at the end of an otherwise solid season. Titans: Season 1 ended on a sour note thanks to "Dick Grayson," which amounted to little more than a drawn-out dream sequence where Dick Grayson beat up Batman's camera-shy stunt double. There was no closure to be had with the show's ongoing Trigon storyline. And based on the Season 2 premiere, the series still has some growing pains to work out before it can recover what was lost.

Showrunner Greg Walker revealed why the season ended so abruptly, essentially saying that what was planned to be the true Season 1 finale was instead reworked to serve as the starting point for Season 2. It's not difficult to see how "Trigon" was meant to act as a finale rather than a premiere. It picks up more or less immediately after the events of "Dick Grayson." It also definitively wraps up that Trigon conflict, rather than establishing a foundation on which the rest of the season can build.
