About this time of year, one would expect to hear about Xbox One owners getting a first crack at the next Call of Duty DLC. However, the console fortunes have turned and that means it is now PS4 owners that will get Black Ops III DLC first. Today, Activision and Treyarch have announced a February 2 deployment date for Awakening, the first of the Season Pass offerings, along with details on what to expect.
As is always the case with DLC packs, Awakening will feature four new multiplayer maps. They include:
- Gauntlet: A three-lane map that features jungle, arctic, and rainy city environments.
- Splash: Set in an old abandoned waterpark, where players will do battle around old pirate ship and a broken-down river ride attraction. Underwater combat opportunities are plentiful.
- Rise: Set outside of snowy Zurich, Rise centers around a construction site with numerous cover spots and wall-running areas.
- Skyjacked: This takes the old Hijacked map from Black Ops II and reimagines it as a security VTOL over urban Zurich. While the quick pace of the old map is still intact, the new movement mechanics will offer new ways to play.
Players will also find new Zombies content with a whole new adventure. The first chapter is titled Der Eisendrache, which will follow Origin characters Richtofen, Nicolai, Takeo, and Dempsey as they explore a strange, medieval castle filled with massive Element 115 deposits. But the crew will also find far more than they bargained for.
Awakened will run for $15 or as part of the Black Ops III Season Pass. While PS4 owners will get it on February 2, Xbox One and PC owners will get it a few weeks later.
