Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.
One of the big changes with The Flash this season has involved the shift to a more segmented form of storytelling. That series has started taking a page from Agents of SHIELD by breaking its year-long story into multiple, discrete acts rather than doing the “one season, one major villain” thing yet again. I don’t know that new showrunner Beth Schwartz has said anything to similar effect when it comes to Arrow, but it definitely feels like this series is also shifting in that direction.
And that’s very much to Arrow’s benefit. “Due Process” shows how quickly the momentum can shift and how a seemingly innocuous, mid-stage chapter in a larger narrative can suddenly take a dramatic and exciting turn.
