Titans Loses Momentum in "Asylum"

Titans is a slow burn of a series in the best of weeks. It's not just the fact that the show seems intent on alternating between plot-driven episodes and side-stories focusing on characters like the Doom Patrol and Jason Todd. Even the "main" episodes tend to unfold at a very methodical pace. It's taken half of Season 1 just to bring these four heroes together. There's no telling how much longer it'll take for them to evolve into a legitimate superhero team, much less gain the costumes, the headquarters and everything else that comes with the job.

At this point, it seems pretty safe to assume we're not going to get any of that in Season 1. We're rapidly nearing the end of this initial batch of ten episodes and our heroes are still on the road, figuring out their next move and uncovering more about Rachel's true nature. There's nothing inherently wrong with such a methodical approach to world-building. Still, it's hard not to come away a little frustrated after an episode like "Asylum."
