This is a (mostly) spoiler-free review for the series premiere of I Am the Night, which airs on TNT on Monday, January 28.
An overwhelming sense of foreboding best describes the tone of TNT's new murder-mystery thriller, I Am the Night. This melancholy tale is brought to life by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, who reunites with leading man Chris Pine in a show that has the creative pedigree to be a "prestige" television series but fails to stand apart from the True Detectives and Luthers of the world. While Jenkins excels at building tension, there's no payoff in the first hour, begging one to consider if sitting through another 5 hours of this period drama will be worth finding out how it all ends.
