It really doesn't seem very long ago that Arrow was celebrating its 100th episode, yet here we are now at #150. Once again, the series marks a big milestone by looking back at its own legacy. But this time, without the need to also play a part in a larger crossover storyline, this anniversary special is able to better serve its own needs.
"Emerald Archer" is easily the biggest stylistic departure we've ever seen on Arrow, with significant chunks of the episode being presented in the form of documentary clips. It's a clever conceit, so long as you don't ask pesky questions like "Why would ARGUS allow a camera crew inside its headquarters?". The This Is Spinal Tap/The Office approach wound up working really well here. It's a great way to look back at the past seven years in a slightly new way. It's also a golden opportunity to bring in some guest stars, with everyone from Caity Lotz to Willa Holland to Grant Gustin to even Joe Dinicol stopping by.
