The cover to Heroes in Crisis #6 asks, "Who's behind the massacre?" That's a question every reader is asking, but not one they should expect to see answered in this chapter. Sure, there's a scene that seems to implicate a certain character in the slaughter at Sanctuary, but why bother taking any of these teases at face value at this point? As much as ever, the appeal with this issue is the opportunity to take a deeper dive into the troubled psychology of DC's heroes.
Like issue #3 before it, Heroes in Crisis #6 serves as a transitional point between acts and flashes back to the days leading up to the Sanctuary massacre. This issue doesn't have a great deal new to add to the origins or purpose of Sanctuary. It sheds a bit more light on how lifelike holograms are used as a form of active therapy for Sanctuary's patients, but otherwise the formula remains consistent. This issue follows three characters (Harley Quinn, Wally West and time-displaced Neanderthal Gnarrk) as they grapple with their respective traumas. And once more, this character-driven approach carries the day.
