Blood & Oil wants to be the modern Dallas from the perspective of a blue collar family intent on making it big, but beyond its unintentionally campy execution and obsession with the oil industry, ABC's new drama has nothing on the classic soap opera from the '70s and '80s.
The series, which premiered Sunday on ABC, stars Chace Crawford and Rebecca Rittenhouse as newly married high school sweethearts Billy and Cody Lefever, and their believable, warm chemistry is the best part of Blood & Oil's pilot. When they talk about their dreams for a better life and romance one another, it feels like they're a real and relatable couple. And that's the first and last time "real" and "relatable" can be applied to this series.
