Batman #47 Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The "Superheavy" storyline is quickly heating up as it moves towards its big climax. Short of Batman #44 and its moodily rendered flashback story, issue #47 might just be the strongest chapter of its arc yet. It offers a strong balance of the three major protagonists, more insight into the nature of the creepy Mr. Bloom and some excellent plot twists along the way.

One of the hallmarks of Batman is that he's crafty enough to defeat opponents who by all rights should be way above his pay grade. It's doubtful we'll see Jim Gordon beating up Darkseid anytime soon, but this issue does throw the fledgling Batman into the deep end as Bloom turns Gordon's trusted robo-suit against him. Given how much the previous issue played up the bond between Gordon and his suit, there's definitely an emotional quality to seeing the two locked in mortal combat. That makes it all the more satisfying when Gordon triumphs and proves that maybe he does have a shot at this "being Batman" thing after all. Or maybe not, as the situation in Gotham quickly grows more dire.
