Elite Dangerous: Horizons lands on Steam Early Access today

Here we go, the latest and greatest from Shacknews...

Elite Dangerous has been out for about a year, but Frontier is not done exploring the Milky Way galaxy just yet. Today marks the beginning of the game's second season of expansions, which also sees the start of an all new standalone package called Elite Dangerous: Horizons.

Horizons will kick off its expansions with the Planetary Landings content, which introduces 1:1 scale world across the Milky Way, all ripe for exploration. With vast landscapes to check out, users can coast a planet's surface using new SRV ground vehicles in search of resources. While players explore new worlds, new gameplay features are expected to come throughout 2016, like looting, crews, and commander creation. Horizons is also backwards compatible with the original Elite Dangerous, so friends can embark on older missions together, even if one doesn't own the new expansion.

Players will also find a new update for the base game called Elite Dangerous 1.5 - Ships, which introduces new spacecraft, missions, and SteamVR support for PC users. The Ships update is available on PC, Mac, and Xbox One today.

For more on Horizons, visit its website and check out the video below. Elite Dangerous: Horizons is available now on Steam Early Access.
