Part of looking into the future involves recognizing, analyzing, and honoring the past. The Game Developers Conference has often been home to postmortems of classic games and the latest one will appeal to fans of dungeon crawlers and an old studio that grew to become a giant. It was announced today that the Game Developers Conference 2016 will play home to a Classic Game Postmortem for Diablo.
The panel will be delivered by co-founder of the original Blizzard North studio David Brevik. Brevik played a major role in the creation of Diablo and its sequel Diablo II before moving on to his current role with Gazillion Entertainment and Marvel Heroes. Among the items that Brevik will discuss include the process of taking a claymation DOS game and fully realizing it into the household name that it is today. Diablo sits at #57 on the Shacknews Chatty Community's Top 100 PC Games of All-Time, to give an indicator of its influence on past generations of the gaming public.
The Diablo panel is the latest in the ongoing GDC Classic Postmortems, with previous ones covering classics like Doom, Myst, and Fallout. A scheduled date has not been issued for this Classic Postmortem, but GDC 2016 will run from March 14-18 in San Francisco, CA.
