Following the reveal of Cloud as the latest entry to the Super Smash Bros. roster, series director Masahiro Sakurai held the final Smash Bros. Nintendo Direct to announce the character's official release date and pricing information. He's out... today!
Cloud's moves center around his Buster Sword. His side smash unleashes a three-hit combo and includes the sound effect from Final Fantasy VII. He also brings along his Limit Break ability, which sees his gauge fill up over the course of battle. It can be charged by taking damage or by holding Down and B. A full Limit Break meter will allow Cloud to use more powerful versions of his specials.
Blade Beam is the standard B attack, which shoots out a powerful beam. His side-B is Cross Slash, which hits hard, but also leaves Cloud vulnerable if blocked. His Up-B attack is Climhazzard, which can be hit twiced to slam to the ground. Hitting Down-B with a full Limit gauge will unleash Finishing Touch, which only deals 1% of damage, but can launch fighters. His Final Smash is Omnislash, which unleashes one of his powerful finishers from Final Fantasy VII.
The Midgar stage was also detailed. It will feature Summon Materia, which can be used by any fighter to bring powerful summons to the stage. The summons include Ifrit, Ramuh, Odin, Leviathan, and Bahamut ZERO and will reward fighters with a point for any KO inflicted.
And again, Cloud will be available today. He will go for $5.99 on each platform and can be purchased for both 3DS and Wii U for $6.99.
