The Amazing Spider-Man #26 Review

While the return of Norman Osborn is the most newsworthy aspect of this new Amazing Spider-Man storyline, it's not necessarily the most crucial development in the book. The real crux of this arc involves the deteriorating state of Parker Industries and the conflict between Peter Parker's responsibilities as a businessman and a superhero. So much of Dan Slott's long run has been devoted to exploring the true nature of responsibility, and it's good to see the writer hasn't lost touch with that element.

Issue #26 sees Spidey team up with Black Cat and the recently resurfaced Silver Sable in pursuit of Osborn. And while Osborn proves himself to be as crafty as ever despite his lack of powers, this is one case where Peter truly is his own worst enemy. The conflict is making the most of Peter's status as a globetrotting businessman. It's one thing to take time out of his day to punch a few criminals in the streets of New York. It's quite another for Peter to put company resources on the line and ignore sovereign borders in his single-minded pursuit of Osborn. Slott manages to simultaneously reinforce Peter's selfless heroism and reiterate how Peter does more damage to his personal life and public image than any number of Goblin-themed villains ever could.
