DC has been purposely vague about the premise of this new Batman story arc, revealing little more than that it features Batman on a journey of renewal and self-discovery following his surprise marriage proposal to Catwoman. That uncertainty is actually one of this issue's charms. It weaves a compelling mystery as Batman once again finds himself at odds with those closest to him.
Writer Tom King establishes a tense, even unsettling quality to this issue as the mystery behind Batman's seemingly rash behavior becomes more and more paramount. Why has he abandoned his family and seemingly turned against the Justice League. What would cause Batman to risk so much. Is he even more psychologically unstable than he seemed in the aftermath of "The Button." The answer provided in this issue is more satisfying and perfectly logical.
