Winchester Review

The latest game news from IGN - one of my fave channels ever - check it out

The Winchester House is the sort of strange historical footnote that any filmmaker would probably find fascinating. It’s a creepy labyrinth full of stairways that lead nowhere and secret doors and baffling rooms. And if that wasn’t enough, the whole thing was built by the grieving widow of weapons manufacturer William Winchester, because she believed that their house was haunted by the souls of countless people who were killed by gun violence.

It’s a great set-up for a great horror movie. Or at least, it would be if Winchester - the new supernatural thriller from the Spierig brothers - was actually great. The film takes a unique location and a fascinating character and only uses them to tell a flimsy and familiar haunted house story. It just doesn’t matter how solid your foundation is if you build the rest of your house out of particle board.
